800-642-4272

800-642-4272 is a LEGIT number to national grid.  It's a general number with options to choose including customer service, collections (which ALSO has a dedicated 800 number), emergency issues.  I just got a call from that number and a message was left letting me know about the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).  Nice touch, national grid, reaching out to let us (me) know!

Folks, please DO NOT believe this "Dennis" person. The number 800-642-4272 IS NOT any type of legit National Grid.number by any means whatsoever! Their own voice message that they leave on your voicemail even states that they are not associated with National Grid. So I took the extra step and called National Grid customer service who confirmed that 800-642-4272 is an apparent scammer. Stop the BS "Dennis", as I'm guessing you are probably one of the people working for that 800-642-4272 telemarketing service.

Supposedly it's from National Grid, asking me to call them about an "overdue bill". The recorded message left on my answering machine never addressed me by name. Since I am not late on my electric bill, and never have been, I'll ignore it. If I get called again I'm calling National Grid at the number I have in my address book. I'm not convinced that today's call is actually from National Grid. It might be a scam.

i am having work done tomorrow by national grid and it was a courtesy call to remind me they will be there to check on my faulty meter.

I got a call from this number stating it was National Grid that I am late with payment. I am not.

While this number is actually National Grid's customer service number, the scam caller is using a VOIP (Voice over internet protocol) phone to make the call.  THAT ALLOWS THEM TO SPOOF THE CALLER ID SYSTEM!  What this means is that you can't believe any number you see on your caller ID.  I discovered this when I suddenly started getting a lot of fake calls on my cellphone that had numbers from my cellphone's exchange. Based on how I obtained that cellphone number, I don't make or receive many calls from that exchange.  Also, there just can't be that many people suddenly mis-dialing my number.  I did a little internet searching and found several articles about this.  Wikipedia has one of those articles.  Search for "spoof caller id".

Just got this call -- no message left, the caller ID was a repeat of the number.
I suspect this is spoofing in which a bogus caller impersonates a legitimate number. If it were National Grid, we'd see that in the caller ID.

I work at a call center who do customer support for several corporations. We got a call via one of our customer service lines. When I answered the call, a man informed me that our power was about to be shut off and tried to transfer me to the billing department.

I informed him that he was calling a toll-free customer service number, and that I could transfer him to our corporate office to figure out who he would need to get in touch with, and he hung up immediately.

Eleven calls.....yes ELEVEN in one day with no messages left. Fraud

Got a call saying I was 60 days past due.  Gave me a local number to call, which was busy.  Called the 800 number back, only to be told they don't service WA state.  So....Scam.

If this is truly a call from National grid as people are saying, why is the caller ID V023120201000268? Plus, I don't use National Grid so there is no reason to call me.

incoming call 02/05/2019 11:58 EST, caller ID (800) 642-4272. i answered 'hello', live caller proceeded to speak in spanish. i hung up. no clue what it was about.

allegedly National Grid going to shut my power off in 1/2 hour... We don't have Nat Grid. Just one more idiot trying to scam us all! May they rot in the very core of Hell!

Definitely a scam. They asked for a business visa or prepaid credit card for a bill that didn’t exist. Said they were national grid but ended up texting me a picture and calling me from a personal phone after. Super sketchy after initial pro sounding call. Don’t pay them even if they say a shut off is on its way to your office.

Got a call with a weird "butt dial" message... nothing addressed directly to me, just background noise of people talking. Showed like it was coming from XT and not typical 1-800 number. I live nowhere near National Grid or their service area. Definitely spam. I will be reporting.

While 1-800-472-4938 may be a legit number from National Grid. Be very careful where they redirect you. It is very easy these days to make calls appear to come from a legit source. The number I was told to call back to prevent service shut off on an up to date account was not National Grid. 1-800-472-4938... fishing for account information... SCAMMERS!
