Got a call from 1-800-672-2813 on my cell around 8:30pm earlier
because  i was driving, i didn't pay much attention.
It was an automated message, and said something like  this will only take about 5 minutes,
i assume it's a survey, and as soon as i realized it was an automated message, i hung up.
    I am with Fido.

So later i looked up on what it is here.
    Thanks for the info guys.

CRTC...is irrelivant, when is the last time you heard of any of these scum bags being punished? The laws mean nothing if the scum won't face punishment. That's the governement we have help business and [***] Joe Nobody. Well the next [***] sucker that come to my door from the PC's as most of this harrassment has happened under their watch, I'll tell them I won't vote for PC's until I start to see these scum put in jail.

If you call the number back you can add it to their internal do not call list.

Who knows if they actually follow it.

They wanted to ask one question, whether or not I use a cell phone in addition to a home phone, or only a cell phone. That's it. From the DNCL site:

"Calls from organizations conducting market research, surveys, or public opinion polls are exempt from the National DNCL Rules."

Which means it's legal to randomly phone as many numbers as you want at any time of day or night as long as you ask them all the same question(s), I guess. I'm gonna use the extra hour on Saturday night this weekend to find out what 100 random people thought about the Back To The Future trilogy!

We are in fact conducting a survey, and not telemarketing.  We are not scamming anyone; we have supplied a toll free number that you can opt out of receiving calls if you wish. We spell out our name and address and phone number as the law requests, this is called TRANSPARENCY and not SCAM. Your number was generated at random.

If you are on the Do Not call list, by law we are still allowed to call you, as Survey Research calls are exempt. However since the whole purpose of the Survey Research industry is to obtain the opinions of the public, if you want to never receive any calls from us, we have voluntarily provided a way for you to opt out of future calls from us. It is an internal do not call list that we abide by and update daily. We have never tried to sell anyone anything nor will we ever do in the future. Market Research and opinion polls is a self regulated industry and we subscribe to the highest standards and dealings with the public.

We comply with the CRTC conditions for the use of Automatic dialing announcing device ADAD, for telecommunications with no attempt to solicit, that state that we restrict dialing to certain calling hours; that we state clearly our name, address and toll free number at the beginning of the call; that the number can be one at which we can be reached and that we are not soliciting any money or conducting any telemarketing.
Furthermore we offer to remove your number from any future calls.

Received a call Oct 29 at 2:13 on my cell - Telus client.  So frustrating they are not regulated like other telemarketers, because they are just as obtrusive!
