- jenniferI just got the same phone call. Freaked me out because I pay so many bills online, and thought I was behind or forgot one. Caller doesn't identify themselves and asked OVER and OVER again for the 16 digit number. Thank goodness for Google (and this site). It's totally a SCAM!!!
- Caller: World Financial Network

- poppetwa replies to WP ScamlineI went through the whole ordeal of calling them back, and just putting in O's until they sent me to a person, and they asked for SSN and I said no, and then they asked for phone number which I knew they already knew. After much detective work on my part, it turns out that it is for an Ann Taylor card that I hadn't been using. But it is legitimate, but they'll reference you to phone number 800-888-9265 to actually find out who they are calling about. Ann Taylor card is sponsored by WORLD FINANCIAL NETWORK NATIONAL BANK (WFNNB)so I suspect this is who does the financing for many store credit cards. Hope that helps.
- annoyedSame thing w/the british accent. Didnt call back - THANK YOU!!!
- scamstopperJust received the call myself. They called twice. Once from a number 614-729-6040.
- Caller: World Financial Network National Bank
- MichaelOK, so on the tip from above, I called Ann Taylor, to whom I actually did owe money. Bottom line, after sorting things out with the sales rep...it appears this IS something that Ann Taylor does (through their bank)...
SO it appears legit, it's just the sketchiest way POSSIBLE for a company to do this. My theory is that this World Bank or whatever it's called is the (probably credit arm) bank for many companies. If your phone number is triggered by any of the accounts you hold (with, let's just say, Ann Taylor or Macy's, etc), then this automated message is sent to your phone; you call back, put in I'm guessing any account number associated with your phone number, and it pulls up any delinquent accounts. ADDITIONALLY, the Ann Taylor rep said that a soc. sec. # would work as well...
Bottom line, I think it's legit but what a TERRIBLE business practice in this age of ID theft!!

- pissed offJust got call, two from same 1 800 695 9872# Pressed 1 for english. Thet asked for account number. Had no clue to who/what/where I called. Couldn,t understand fast talking automated voice (yes sort on British accent) They called twice within 30 minutes. Put in 16 zeros thinking I would get a live person. Instead they asked for last 4 of ss. So in order to be more efficient and make their life easy I gave them my whole ss #
YEAH RIGHT!!!!- Caller: WorldPerks Visa

- bThis just happened today a lunch time on a business line. The phone number rings in as 303-255-5001, but as it was lunch time went into voicemail. A person with a British accent said this is not a sales call, but a personal matter with World Financial and left a call back number. So I did call the number and it asked me for a 16 digit acct# which of course I did not give as like everyone else tried to hit "0" to see what this is about. Please if you get this also report it to the Do Not Call List so the gov. is aware of this as well.
- TenzoFot the recording myself.
Tried continually putting in 0's, then random numbers.
Called twice
No way would I give personal information to someone I dindt know.
If I find out which credit card this is associated with I will cancel that card- Caller: scambio
- basketball jonesSCAM CITY !
I also received this call. Women with a British accent it seems. Entered 0, *, or # to get to customer service, redialed all with no luck. All it does is ask for your 16 digit account number. entered 16 zeros and the it asked for last 4 digits of SS#, entered 4 0000s and it said no match and repeated at least 3 times for me to re-enter info....

identified themselves as " World Financial Network National Bank"
North East Ohio resident - JaimeI identified this place!
This is World Financial Bank. They own store credit cards for clothing stores like Victoria's Secret, Lane Bryant and Dress Barn.
After hitting a randomn 16 digit number and a random 4 digit number, I was transfered to a rather rude agent who barely spoke english. I was finally able to resolve this issue by asking to speak with customer service and their fraud department, and a lady named Joan was much nicer and explained who they were and why they had business with me.
I explained that I had been avoiding their calls because I was unaware that they had business with me and assumed it was a phishing scam. She apologized.
So if you get a call from this number. It either belongs to thier Visa or Mastrer card, or a variety of small store credit cards, and is usually because you owe them some money. lol- Caller: World Financial Bank

- alex replies to paIt APPEARS to be a company that's outsourced by private-labeled credit cards (i.e. Banana Republic) to handle their credit business. Based on my experience, I'd say they're legitimate.
The way they go about these phone calls is very unsettling to the paranoid amongst us (me included) and it's definitely the way I'd do it if I were a scammer.
It is NEVER a good idea to give out credit card or social security information to someone that called YOU, regardless of how legitimate they might sound. When you get a phone call, even if it is from a bank that you work with, just find out what this is about, say politely that you will call back, hang up and call THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD OR YOUR STATEMENT - NEVER A NUMBER YOU'RE GIVEN. NEVER EVER EVER.
In the case of this particular company (world financial something), I entered 16 random digits and then another 4 when it asked for ssn and was transferred to a representative.
I gave this woman the number of the phone where they had called and left the message, and just asked her to tell me what card this is in regards with.
She gave me valid information related to an issue with a payment I had made, which leads me to believe this isn't a scam, but I still wouldn't give them any information about myself or my accounts with anyone.
Alex - Emily replies to WP ScamlineThis may be legit - it seems to be from my Ann Taylor account - I called and entered made up information. An operator in India is speaking to me now.
- Mike from MichiganSame thing. Idetified themselfs as "World Finacial Network". Woman had a British accent. When I called they wanted an account number without specifing the account name...

- VCAZReceived a phone message on my answering machine, a female voice with a British accents saying:
"Please call World Financial Network National Bank regarding a personal business matter. This is not a sales call. The number is 1-800-695-9872. Thank you."
I called and there were no options to talk with anyone, which seems highly suspicious. It repeatedely would state you have not entered the account number in the time allow, if I tried to trick the system to wait for the call to "rollover" to an operator. I looked up the phone number and found this site. CALLERS BEWARE!!- Caller: World Financial Network National Bank
- Anna| 1 replyonce a day receive a phone call. i dont have any connection with this bank and can't talk to someone. They continually call my cell phone and they're messing up my bill. It's SO frustrating!

- Anna replies to AnnaI called my attorney general who directed me to the FCC. They took down a complaint. I would recommend everyone to do so, the number is 1 877 382 4357. It's called a spoof call and if you ignore it and DON'T answer it it should go away within 72 hours.
- not gonna get ripped off replies to CS NoVA| 1 replyI called this number and gave a bogus account number twice before I was transferred to a live operator from India. I gave a false name hoping to get some information about what organization it was. I had to verify my phone number but I was stuck because the name I gave them wasn't the right one for their records. I said I was making sure they were legit, and she hung up on me. There's nothing I hate worse than scammers. They may be a legit business, but it's a scammer business.
- not gonna get ripped off replies to not gonna get ripped offI used all zeros for the account number and social, twice to get throught to an operator. She (Indian)said she's based in Columbus Ohio. She confirmed she has my wife's information and it's regarding a credit card. But she wouldn't give me any more information than that. She even laughed nervously when I asked what card it was regarding, and said she couldn't give me that information until she could verify my information first. Hmmm... end of phone call.
- Meg replies to Annoyed OneI just recieved the same phone call...thinking I h ad forgotten to pay a bill. Guess I was wrong. I too am happy I looked it up.
- JohnI got the same call one day after I sent a wire transfer to Paris for a university enrollment fee. So I thought it was something to do with that but I think my bank would handle such matters directly. I do have an account with the Buckle store. Do they handle that account as well?
