- az chickieA woman called and my roomie answered since I was at work. They asked her where I was, when I would be home, my cell phone number, where I worked, etc. They wouldn't tell her who they were or why they were calling but were trying to get all my personal information from her about me. Since the woman who called wasn't getting anywhere with my roomie, who flat refused to give out my info, some man got on the phone and tried! The gall of these people to harrass my roomie for my information!
- Caller: they wouldn't say
- NaniKaiThey've repeatedly called my home and hang up. I will report them here but if they keep calling me I will report them to the National Do Not Call Registry since I have registered my phone number there. I do not play around with anyone fishing for my private an personal information and nor should anyone else. If anyone tries to call my home again they will be notified that they've been reported as such!!! I have a feeling this is a company that was calling me a while back and I traced the phone number and notified the person responsible for the marketing that I was on the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY and the phone calls stopped but now they're picking back up again and they were really bad before where they called me at all hours of the evening and would not stop, mostly calling from 7 pm until 11:30 pm!!! I will report them further to the Attorney General for the State of California if this keeps up, I am not going to be harassed!
- mimi| 1 replyRediculous scavenger company.
They are trying to collect an old credit card debt to which I had a dispute
over from 96'. This debt is 11 years old. However, when purchasing a home in May my banker told me to clean up my credit and that was one of the accounts.
In May and June I was trying like heck to get in touch with them to pay this account. I called numerous numbers that I had to work hard to get. Each and everytime I called I either got a rapid busy, or a dead tone after ringing some four times or so. When I finally got someone to answer, they told me to call another number, which I did. Left a message 3 times and no one called me back. I closed on my house the end of July. Now they have resurfaced to harass again. I remember from about 4 years ago that a man would call all hours of the night, he sounded like "Guido" from the mafia, and even said on one occasion that I would regret it if I didnt pay. This frightened me. And I had made up my mind not to answer when they called.
At this time, this is my position again. I looked them up on the internet and they just recieved some cash to pour into their company again. I do not know where they get their positive public relations on the internet or their money but this seems very unethical business practice. Bad business.

- DD Bangor MaineThese people are dirt bags, they repost old debt that is out of statute of limitations and put a new date on it. It is illegal, contact your State Attorney General's office, tell them all about everything, don;t give them a penny. Look the up on Bud Hibbs site. http://www.budhibbs.com/ They are a company with many names, and have been fined numerous times by the government.

- granny of 3Exactly, DD. I know firsthand of their tactics, because they tried to scam an elderly family member of mine last year over an old debt which they had purchased from Ford Motor Credit. The SOL for enforcing this debt through the courts in our state had expired the year before, and they KNEW it. He sent them a Cease Communication letter VIA certified mail (with return receipt requested) and hasn't heard from them since.

RE: [insert account number or name of account or name of debt]:
Dear [insert collector's name or company name],
This letter is in response to your [letter dated xx-xx-2005] (copy enclosed) or [phone call on xx-xx-2005], concerning the collection of the above referenced [account or date].
I do not believe I owe what you say I owe therefore I dispute this debt. I am well aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and my state laws so I hope to save both of us a great deal of time by letting you know that not only do I dispute the validity of this debt, I have also checked with my State Attorney General and verified that the Statute of Limitations for enforcing this type of debt through the courts in (insert your state or the state in which the contract was signed) has expired. Therefore, should you decide to pursue this matter in court I intend to inform the court of my dispute of this debt and that the "statute of limitations" has expired.
This letter is your formal notification that I consider this matter closed and demand that you, or anyone affiliated with your company, stop contacting me regarding this or any other matter except to advise me that your debt collection efforts are being terminated or that you or the creditor are taking specific actions allowed by the FDCPA or my state laws.
Be advised that I consider any contact not in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act a serious violation of the law and will immediately report any violations to my State Attorney General, to the Federal Trade Commission and, if necessary, take whatever legal action is necessary to protect myself. Be advised that I tape record all phone calls and violations of the FDCPA can result in you or your company being personally fined up to $1,000 per incident.

- tired of phone callsI had noticed the phone # 800-722-1413 showing up on my caller id. I am hardly home however I was home today when they called. I waited for the automatic system to connect to a person. I proceeded to ask her where she was calling from and to take me off her list. She only told me Norfolk. Well Norfolk is NOT the company whom she represents and by law they are supposed to tell me what company they are calling from. After I told her to take me off her list she asked me if i was such n such person , I said no. She proceeded to be nasty to me and asked me why i had to ask her so many questions if i wasnt the person. I hung up on her, found out the # belonged Portfolio Collections and called their actual # back 757-519-9300 and asked for a manager. Catherine (mgr) got on the phone & I let her know that if receive one more phone call from their company I can proceed legally against this company so I advised her not to call back. She said thank you and hung up. By law they are not allowed to call back especially if you ask them not to.

I was told I owed $11,000+ on Capital One MasterCard that I didn't open. There's a reason I only have one credit card.
First three digits of Social Security number, "388", I confirmed it was not mine without giving them mine.

We have a very common last name, so we get asked for a lot of different people. .. They must think I have 75 children..They say it was a business deal or personal..Glad I looked this up.... - scarymar1st time there was a message with a number, I called to find out who they wanted as there was no indication as to what this was about - told them that there was no such person at this number and I've had the number for over 5 years. Whoever I spoke to told me that my number would be removed from their list. However, I've had missed calls every day from this number. The first time caller ID showed Portfolio, now it just comes up out of area. Thanks to all for the heads up. Not sure if I can send a letter as I have no info to reference at all.

- nic74 replies to granny of 3Thanks for the letter. These people are calling my house everyday and refuse to tell me who they are. I have told them repeatedly that until they are willing to tell me who is calling and why the heck they want to talk to us then I refuse to take a message! I'll try calling back and getting removed from their call list as someone else suggested as well. Thanks!
- jesswell i know that they call all the time. And i have told them they have a wrong number they keep calling. I have now contacted the Colorado Atterny General's office. You can report them and then after that has been filed, and they continue to call you they will be fined. Also the person who was complaining about them harassing their roomie. That can be filed as well and be fined for it as well. Also they will tell you that they can't tell you who they are with. Legally they can as long as it doesn't say in the name collections.

- crusader for fraud on elderly and handic replies to Cynthia| 5 repliesNo you are not calling to get a debt paid --this is fraud --you are calling to give a name and number--you are a message service-and this is fraud--I repeat this is undo pain and psychological mental streess to the elderly and mentally handicapped--and helping an abusive husband or x run over his family. My granddaughter has physical and mental handicaps and
Ron Ford is using her number to abuse and use her too, she can not explain to her mother how this stuff happens but i know he downloads a bunch of it from a third number on her cell number and my grand daughter, as i have been --gets the blame for these messages so he can hide his abuisive and out side relationships and steal money. Iam not stoping here with this, but i would advice you too. - WilliamMany calls. Portfolio recover Associates. Trying to collect a debt from a Visa account from 2002. I gather that Portfolio "buys" old accounts of bad debt and tries to collect it. The debt is past the date to legally be recovered. I informed the Portfolio agent of that fact, gave them my attorneys number and instructed them to call him. Portfolio keeps calling. When I see it is them on Caller ID, I just let it go to voicemail and delete them. No muss. No fuss. I guess they don't care. What is the next step? Use Pre-Paid Legal to sue for harassment?
