Looks like their call to me was legitimate.  But why don't they leave a message????  After reading posts here and finding out this was M&T, I went to my account on-line and discovered that I had forgotten to make last month's home equity line payment.  If they'd left a message with specific details, I'd have returned the call and taken care of the payment immediately.  If it hadn't googled the number and found these postings, I'd still be unaware of the missed payment.  Of course, one would wonder why they are calling me when I'm only one month behind and normally make my payments on time.  I would have discovered the error in a few days when the next statement arrived in the mail.

They keep calling me looking for my mother. If these people are really from a bank shouldn't they have her number not mine? I dont have any accounts at M&T and I an not on any loans with my mother so I don't understand how they have my phone number!

I think it's a scam. They are asking with a machine for me to enter the first 5 digits of my social. NO WAY.

They will call repeatedly if you are in your grace period. They did this to my husband yesterday (while he was at work) and when he told them that we would pay them today (which I did) and to please stop calling, the woman on the phone told him that the only way that they will stop is if we send them a letter in the mail ... not email, not over the phone, but through the postal service. I've also had a problem with them because they had the wrong SSN on the account. How did they screw up something that major? Again, when I needed them to fix that so I could set up online bill pay, they said that I would have to send a copy of my husband's social security card through the mail. Um, I don't think so! I hate this bank! M&T bank ... just say the letters aloud and it comes out "empty" bank. Everything about this bank seems fishy.

We get calls from 800-724-2525 several (5-6) times a day.  When we answer the phone, there is never anyone there, there is silence for about 25 second then it disconnects to a dial tone.

There have been reports that this number belongs to M&T Bank, of which I am a customer but they deny calling me using this number.

We registered our telephone numbers on the National Do Not Call list (we have reaffirmed our numbers repeatedly) but this toll free number (800-724-2525) continues to get through.

Please block this number from gaining access to (845) 626-7964, thank you....

They have called y house numerous times and have yet to leave a message. Now today they call my work phone and finally leave a message that it is very important that I call them. OK. I have a truck loan through them that is up to date and nearly paid off so, what is so important that M&T collections is calling? Will be interesting to hear what the  deal is.

I receive numerous calls throughout the day from this number. I would appreciate if someone would either leave me a message why I am receiving the call or stop calling me.

I worked at a call center for years. They are not waiting and then hanging up, most likely their system is calling several ph #s at a time if someone else answers first, it will hang up on the other people that the system is calling

Just got a call from this number today.  Phone did ID it as from M&T bank, but it appears to be a "phishing expedition".
When answered, it said:  "if you are so-and-so, please press "1".  I pressed "1", whereupon they asked for the first 5 numbers of my SSN.  Not willing to to say anything further, I just hung onto the line.  After a lengthy time, they transferred me to another number.  I again just listened, heard a single ring, then silence.  After about two minutes of silence, I hung up.  As the last 4 numbers of a person's SSN are comparatively easy to find, I expect they were trying to capture the first five, then locate the last four numbers using another method.

I received a call from this number this morning and they asked to speak with my father (who happens to have died over a year ago and they also pronounced my last name incorrectly. She then asked to speak with my mother. I informed her that she was at work and could I take a message. She said what her name was and that she was calling from m and t bank. My point is, if she really was from the local branch wouldn't she know that my father passed away and obviously would not mispronounce my last name? It has to be some sort of scam.

I was told it was their asset management department. And they wanted to verify my address. If they have my work number, then they have my address especially since I went in there and gave them my mailing address in person.

Received numerous calls from this number and no messages left. Did some research and found out it is M & T Bank.  Am going to contact the bank and tell them of the harassment. I have dates and times of all the calls and they are at least 5 plus calls.  They even called on a Sunday am.  This is totally uncalled for.

They call constantly as of late. You have to say "Hello" at least 3-5 times before their auto dialer recognizes they've a fish nibbling. Then I am put on hold and 5 times given the typical asinine message of how important "my?" call is to them and please continue to hold. Finally a woman with an foreign accent speaks to me by name, identifies herself as "inaudible" with M&T. She wants to verify my address on my M&T account before telling me the purpose of her call all while insisting it isn't a sales call. I won't cooperate and she won't inform me purpose of call but says I can call back the number she is calling from (800-724-2525) but they will request my account and soc sec #. I told her "Nice try lady" and hung up. Whom ever posted above that this is early stage of their debt collection dept is full of it and probably part of this scam as I've had accounts with M&T since 1989 and have never once been late or missed a payment. I have had legitimate phone calls from M&T recently with regards to my accounts and never once did they ask me to verify anything before stating the purpose of their call. DON'T even think of giving the con/scam artists calling from this number as much as your name. Simply ask what the call is in regards to. THEY should be able to provide YOU with your account details first and of course...they can't...because they are relying on you to tell all...SUCKER!

Also got a call from this number today, exactly same as Chittenango described. A lady said she was calling from M&T bank. First thing she did is to ask me to verify my address, then refused to tell me anything before "verification is complete". Be Aware.

I am also on the Do Not Call list, as are many of us here, and we still get these calls. This is something going on nationwide where scammers are calling trolling for the opportunity to steal from you. The No Call list works for reputable people. These callers are not reputable people.

it is a legit number for M&T bank .  they called my house several times and i blocked them.  we called M&T directly and we had a payment that wasn't processed properly and they were trying to reach us.     Still  numbers can always be spoofed, so don't rely that if you get a call from this number that it is always a legit call,  just call the bank you think is calling directly using the number on your bank card and you can usually find out if they were in fact calling you for any reason - better safe than sorry

this forum is great for these type of things.   i usually block all these unavailable numbers and 800 numbers etc,  then google them when they call several times.   If i think it could be a bank or another credit card agency that might be legit then i can always call them directly and see if there is a problem with my credit cards  etc.    Never trust anyone who calls me
