- A. R.Received a missed call from (214) 382-4871. A voicemail was left from Pro Collect asking for a call back at 800-732-3799. However, I had already received a call from them approximately one month ago and was able to answer it (it didn't go to voicemail). A female stated I owed $3400 to an apartment complex and they got the file in their office 8 years ago.
I informed her that in the state I live in (Nebraska) there are laws of *statute of limitations* of FOUR YEARS for unpaid rents which make it illegal for a collector to even contact me about the debt after the 4 years passes. I said I may have paid if they had contacted me all those years ago, but now I'm not willing to and am not legally required to!
Then I informed her that I will be checking my credit (which I know did have this debt, but has since dropped off) and if I find anything from them I will contact the credit bureaus and will seek an attorney to pursue legal action against them for violating not only my state's laws but also federal law- FDCPA. She said they won't call any more and quickly hung up on me!
But here we are again with them contacting me. Since Pro Collect is in Texas, I am filing a complaint with the Texas Attorney General and take it from there.- Caller: Pro Collect

- Trellisi received a call also. Left on answering machine I filed bankruptcy and lost my home so I know that this is phony because I no longer have credit.

- AmberI received a call from this company for an apartment debt that I owe. I know that it is a valid debt, but have an attorney involved and investigating the apartment complex itself. I hope they call again so I can get the attorney to go after them too !

- Jamie| 2 repliesProCollect collection calling about a collection balance from an apartment complex I moved out of 7 years ago. The apartment complex had my forwarding address and never sent me a bill or anything in the first place, just tossed me to collections. This debt was removed from my credit reports after the apartment complex 'lost' my files in storage and couldn't validate any of the charges I supposedly owed. I thought it was over until I started getting calls last month from them. They have not sent me 1 piece of mail, just continue to leave messages on my cell phone. They are actually calling from 214-382-4871 but leaving a message to return call to 1-800-732-3799.

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.
Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

The recording says to press 1 to connect to a representative or call 800-732-3799.
Being in a mood to have some fun I pressed 1 and some lady came on the line. I asked who she was and she said Ms. Jones. I asked who she was with and she would not tell me. She had a bad attifude from the start and it only got worse as I continued to ask her what company she works for that is calling my number. She refused to answer and hung up.- Caller: They refused to identify themseves
- DvDProCollect- I posted a review on one of their satellite numbers 214-341-7788. I'll post again on this nuisance number: ProCollect number, caller was “Mrs Torres” (If that is her real name). Just google these guys and you’ll see lawsuits and complaints. These guys are nothing more than scammers that dance in and out of the grey areas of the law. They called me about an 8 year old hospital bill. I paid the outrages $1,800 for a 6 hour hospital stay at the time. They said I owed and additional $450 for the doctor bill. I asked them to send me signed receipt for this “outstanding bill”. They sent me a suspicious printout from an old generic dot matrix printer… no signature, no date, not even a service address, obvious scam. It was a sad attempt. No wonder these guys have so many lawsuits against them.

- MargaThey keep on calling me. I have never answered their call as I do Not have any debt. THE person is Ms Nuñez
- AmandaGot a call from this #! Didn't answer but called back and gave them my # to look up why they were calling, they said they were looking woman named Terresa Roman for a debt at an apt complex. I told the lady my name is Amanda so it's not my debt. She said ohhh yes your name is on here too with Terresa's! HIGHLY doubtful since I don't know any Terresa..so I snapped back and said if I'm on there with Terresa please tell me what my last name is...she said the same as Terresa's, Roman! Ummm nice try but that is NOT my name! I demanded they do not EVER call me again! DONT FALL FOR IT PEOPLE...it's fraud!
Also you can now block #s with your smart phone, mine is a iPhone so I go to details of the call and at the bottom there is an option to block to caller!!! I would advise everyone to do that on these types of calls!- Caller: Pro Collect

- susan replies to JamieThese people have been calling me as well saying that my son and I owe an apartment complex over $2,400 which is preposterous! We moved out not owing any rent, and the apartment was not damaged and cleaned. When they called the first time, I told the little girl on the phone I did not owe the apartment and she started yelling at me, then put me on hold. They've been harassing me ever since. And I have photos to back up my claim that no repairs were ever made and the kitchen stove was an electric hazard. These debt collectors are nothing short of crooks.
- EmilyGot a message from a lady this morning named Ms. Pressin (Preston?) not sure because she was talking so fast and she sounded muffled. She couldn't even pronounce my name ha! This is the exact voicemail she left verbatim. Her tone of voice sounded like an advertiser (lmao) but definitely reading off of a script:
This message is for ***********************. This is Ms Pressin calling from Pro Collect. I need you to return a phone call today. My phone number is toll free 1-800-732-3799 my direct extension is 149. This is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose....
She sounded like an idiot. Don't answer these calls. They have a history of harassment and being sued. I have 3 different numbers blocked that are all from them and it will send them straight to voicemail where I find the messages later on because I have no idea they tried calling me. They are ignored and I like it like that.- Caller: Pro Collect
- Call type: Debt collector
- JessicaGot a call from Pro Collect. They call at least twice a week. I have blocked them so I don't notice until I check my voicemail that they've left messages. Usually it's a recording. BUT THIS WEEK WAS DIFFERENT. It wasn't a recording this time and instead the caller sounded like she was on a cell phone. It was very windy in the background and sounded like she was driving. Her name is MS. MOORE and she couldn't read very well because it sounded like she was trying to say something scripted. The tone sounded very generic, unprofessional. . It was hilarious when she said my name because she totally screwed up the pronunciation. So my habit is to not return the phone call simply because they cant even pronounce my name correctly. Just means it isn't a legitimate call. In the message she says to call 1-800-732-3799 ext 142. yet she called from 214-341-7788. If I don't recognize a number, I don't answer. I will look it up on this site and block it. If they leave a message I will also block them after that.

- BigAYou need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (think of it as the best $6.59 you ever invested). Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it. Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it. Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front): http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

She requested that I call her back at this number with her direct extension at 121. I’m sure this call is a scam.
