Call from Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis. Customer service person called to update the info they have on file for me.

MedAssist, Inc. called me about a recent hospital visit to inquire if it was a "cash visit."  I presented an insurance card at the time of admittance. The call was very suspicious.  I returned the call to give insurance card information and talked to Debbie.  She seemed put-off and hung up when I asked the address of MedAssist, which I found by Internet search engine.

Thought I caught the call on time, but it went to voicemail. Was obviously a recorded message (male voice) with another voice (female - sounded like a machine) adding my name. Said "not a sales call" and "not a marketing call" but it did not give any indication as to what is was about. It told me to call this toll free number to retrieve my message with a reference number and it also gave an extention. Said to call M-F 8-5:30.
No decent business would not identify themself and just say to call them back.
    I'm not calling.
Also, I noticed the other 2 comments on this number, and I don't have any medical issues that I should be getting calls on. Nor have I done any business with IU or know what MedAssist even is.

same as above but they called three times. I googled the number and it came up Med Assist.

Plus a letter came two days after the last call from Budget/US offering me two tickets... asking me to call 800-241-0658 as printed on the letter.

    Same scam or new one????

Same as before but this time they said the message was for my infant! She's not had anything - including medical - that should be getting a phone call.
Again left a reference number and an extention to call.
Still irritated with this, especially since I have Vonage and don't get any other unidentified calls.

Yeah I got one too but I did not get to it in time.  I think somebody sold my phone number so now I get all kinds of spam calls.

At least 3 calls identify message is for me and keep playing. They offer no representation of WHO or WHAT THEY ARE. They want user to press "0" and only during their business hours - NO BUSINESS OR ENTITY IS IDENTIFIED - Like others (above) I will not answer this call. Honest businesses identify themself. My opinion is this is a "cold" call to "warm" call converter, and unsolicited in any form. They may be selling condos or cream corn. I recently made an emergency room trip. If this is those people, they should not fear identification. Thus, just hang up these guys.

    From their website:

"Advomas is the oldest Michigan firm assisting hospitals with securing a payer source for uninsured patients. We not only go after coverage through Medicaid and the other discounted government plans but we also specialize in finding other sources which pay the hospital more. We are so good at this that when we receive a case for Medicaid, we find another source about 10% of the time".

I recently had a ambulance ride & a 5 hour stay in the emergency room. They did do their darn best to keep me in the hospital past midnight and gave me oxygen and test I'm sure I don't know yet about and didn't need.

I ambulance ride was $765 and it took them more than 30 minutes to get there.

I'm holding me breath on the short ER stay...

The problem, an accidental aspirin overdose (Don't try it!). I told them the dosage of aspirin (11) but they still threw the kitchen sink at me. In fact a doctor never saw me, until 2 hours in for 5 seconds. I bet they wouldn't have had they known I was uninsured.

I am uninsured and after this experience I may have to flee the country to avoid a life of miserable servitude and poverty, all to boost the egos of some corpulent fat cats (who are no doubt sneeringly bragging to each other in their private clubs about how they gave more to 'charity' to their absent collegues).

My recorded voice was also a recorded male voice clearly meant to be threatening. My name was said by a computerized female voice in a manner clearly meant to diminish me relative to the 'corporate' male voice.

nice girl, Latosha,  called with hospital bill question. returned call, everyone pleasant, a messed up mammogram bill from 07. they say CHA ins Co. said I was not a client after several calls. I Found the old insurance card and and gave them the policy numbers. With both me and Latosha on the line, she called CHA, and this time they said I did have coverage during the time frame in question. She can now bill them for it.
So it all seemed to be a valid call for a valid reason.

I received 3 calls or my voicemail did. I am glad for that. No reason given for call. Just said to call this number. I don't know of any medical bills that should have been turned over to a collector. Very suspicious!! Hang up! I am not giving any information over phone to anyone that won't identify thereself.

Firstsource Advantage, LLC - a really nasty debt collection agency has the number 800-736-2107 as their contact number.  Another contact number for Firstsource Advantage, LLC is 716-564-4400.  Do not waste your time talking to them. They will lie, cheat and do whatever they can to harass you.

I worked for MedAssist for 3 years and I loved my job!!!!!   All they do is try to help you pay for medical expenses.  They help the patient and the hospital.  Most deal in state funded programs such as Medicaid, Medicare supplement Medicaid, & Social Security Disability.  Also, MedAssist provides medical loans and some deal with private insurance companies.  Sometimes when a person enters the hospital it is in an emergency situation and all of the insurance information is not entered into the system correctly or the hospital misses information for billing processes.  MedAssist simply screens patients for eligibility for state and federally funded programs, or if the patient has insurance they will re-direct the information to the billing department to take the information and bill the insurance company.  Sometimes the hospital billing department will catch their mistakes and MedAssist may have called you before the mistake was caught!!!  The job does keep the representative busy all day (large case load) as you can image the number of patients seen at the hospital everyday (Many with no insurance and no way to pay).   MedAssist helps patients find funding to pay the medical expenses.

They are helpers not criminals!!!---Do Research before you complain!!!!!

used to work for medassist also
I worked for MedAssist as a manager for a long time, and while their main focus is screening for potential eligibility, they can be aggressive, especially if the hospital bill is quite high. They basically contract with local hospitals to screen non insurance patients for potential medicaid, medicare, and various programs. What the previous poster did not say is, if you are eligible, expect them to call at LEAST every week until you have been approved with program they are trying to get you on. They will also be calling your work place and they will be calling the program in which you have applied for to check on your status.

We do screenings for social service programs and disability then help the patient from application through apporval at no cost to the patient.  I have NEVER called a patient at work and will not do so.

    DCF worker
    Yea, a totally legit company....NOT!!
I worked at the DCF Call Center a few years ago and this company is full of crooks! We were responding to their inquiries and tracked their hospital bills. My co-workers and supervisor did some research on some of their applications, and they were entirely fraudulent!

They were not including people (fathers and mothers) in their applications so that their income wouldn't be counted, and therefore making the client eligible for Medicaid. When we could call the clients, they would have no idea what we were talking about...and weren't even aware that applications had been filed!

    Be careful with this company.
