I screen all my calls and never pick up a number or place I do not recognize or am expecting.
I received a call from someone named Amelda (poor English speaking) who said the call was for me (my full name) and it was in reference to my Social Security application and I should call her back Fri. or Sat. until 1:30pm. The caller ID listed the caller as General Info & ..... with the number as 1-800-772-1213.  But the number she left to call back was 1-800-842-0588 Ext. 34967 - which when Googled also turned up on a list of scam numbers.

I have absolutely no application for Social Security, as I already have one so I know this is a scam and will not waste my time calling back to try to see what it is about - Social Security does not call you out of the blue about something important - they send you something official in writing through the US Postal service.

Getting unwanted calls from this number. I will be reporting to FCC and hope they will take some action against this fraud. Where are our protection from these Scam Artists?

Received a call yesterday from this number.  It appeared as "unavailable," therefore I did not answer it and no message was left.  I agree with many of the above callers that this is most likely a scam spoofing the SSA number.

Update to my message above...yesterday's call was a return call to us from the SSA, which I didn't realize was placed and answered by another family member.  

Be sure you are answering the "800" form of this number, NOT "888," as another caller mentioned above.

If you go to http://socialsecurity.gov you will see this number listed as a true ssa number.

It might be SSA's number, but Cornholio Recovery is spoofing again. What a bunch of a--holes This should give everyone who ever dealt with Portfolio Recovery an idea of how dishonest they really are!

Granted, this number is the number for the SSA    BUT that doesn't mean the person calling you with this number on ID is from the SSA.  The SSA is NOT going to call you for any reason IF they need to contact you it WOULD be through the US mail. THESE CALLS ARE GENERATED BY PORTFOLIO RECOVERY ASSOC.   Report them to the real SSA It's illegal for them to spoof any number

10/11/12  Called from this number. caller ID states "unavailable"
When researched..states SSA from Houston, TX.  I live inMA.  No reason to be called from TX.

I also got that call. I called the Selenas, CA SS office and talked to a rep there. The 866 number is good. Apparently, that office can be assigned claim applications for people no where near California.

Just got a call and the message was in spanish......too freakin' funny No habla Espanol is this house.  So I'm chalking it up to spammers.....

I got a letter on 1/28/13 asking me to call this # 1800-254-9489 EXT. 2532 and ask for Wendi. They are requesting additional information to process my claim for benefit. I called the number but no one answered. Is this number associated with any SS office?

I have received 8 calls in the last hour and a half from 800-772-1213. I am home sick today and this is annoying. I did not answer any of the calls, but they did leave a recorded message.  I  called my local SS office and they could not find anything on me or why someone was even calling me. It's just another annoying scam!

They called me back 10 minutes later, i gave them mi social but never heard 4rm them

I got the call on 5 Sep and a message was left requesting call back at 855-249-4175 EXT 4015051.  Called back and unwittingly left my name and SSN and call back number. Got no return call.  Stepped into that one, big time.

This is a telemarketer posing as Social Security. Do not give them any personal info. They are hoping to get your Soc Sec # (or they already have it) and other vital info. This is NOT the SSA, even though the phone number that shows up on your Caller ID is the real SSA 800 line. It is "spoofed." Do not cooperate. Do not even answer. Any info you give can easily be used to steal your identity.

Was expecting SS to call but the number showed up and all they said was "What?" Then "you called me WHAT do you want?" They would not say who was calling and I did not give my name
