Got a call from what appears to be Social Security but says to call back to another number.  Left a voicemail in very broken English that the FBI and Homeland Security was looking for me and to watch out for Russell.  Yeah right.  Number. blocked.

Receive cals from this number claiming to represent the SSA. I doubt the SSA would call me this way as I worked in Federal govvernment, and this communication method was not used. This is a scam of the highest proportion as it preys on seniors and vulnerble folks. Pure SCAM!!! Do not answer; do not call back; do not give ANY information. SCAM!!!

the number was identified as SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION on my cell phone. I did not answer the call but think it was bogus! I agree with DONT ANSWER

The recording started off "This is the Social Security office to let you know your account is frozen"  I hung up

Caller ID stated "Social Security 800-772-1213".  Received call stating that there is a warrant for my arrest under my SS#. I needed to contact them so that they would not "suspend" my SS#. I was to press "1" to transfer to appropriate person.  Needless to say I hung up at that point.

My brother just got scammed $900 because they told him someone used his account and SS# so he needed to withdraw all his money from one of his checking account and send them the card info...…….YES he was gullible but these people SUCK!!!! Just preying on the innocent!

Really?  You think that person who clearly posted here in 2008 was telling the truth?  I can see you getting scammed out of a lot of money in the very near future.

+18007721213 is a valid SSA Office number.  It is listed on the SSA.Gov web site, along with some others that have also been tagged as bad.  I also called and they verified information on file.  I did not give it them, but they verified.

This is a recorded message robocall (captured most of the message on voice mail) supposedly from Social Security regarding help with prescription drug benefits. This may be a scam.  What I recorded was: “extra help with prescription drug coverage. If you think you may qualify, please fill out and return the application mailed with the letter or file online at www.socialsecurity.gov. If you have questions or need help, please call Social Security’s toll free number, 1-800-772-1213.” The caller ID shows as “American Voice” (internet search does not turn up any legitimate organization). The toll free call back number IS listed on the SSA website as a legitimate number, however, the calling number (972-497-1400) is not. In fact, the SSA does not list local office numbers and specifically says so on their website. The website reference in the message also is not the real SSA web address, however, an internet search of that website DOES produce the real SSA web address. I did not attempt to link directly to www.socialsecurity.gov. The SSA handles Medicare enrollment and also DOES handle applications for help with prescription drug benefits (application form SSA-1020). So, if this is a scam, it is a very sophisticated one.

The 800 number is in fact the SSA.
BUT.... numbers can be spoofed.
You can call the 800 number and it will go to the SSA, the spoofers cannot re-route calls to numbers.

My husband just died and the scammers have crawled out from under the rock they live in.

Got a call which directs me to call this # for more info (it went directly to my landline which does not have caller ID on it -I'm too damn cheap and it can be spoofed at any rate). Message was identical to that which TXAnon reported verbatim in March 2010. Given that I have not filed for SSA I am leery to call this number / go to the website to figure out what's going on.
