- Theresa R.Got a phone call that my SSN was suspended for suspicious activity. I actually asked the caller ("Sebastian Taylor") how did I know this wasn't a scam. He gave me his badge number and an 800 number that connected me to the SSA website. Unfortunately, I fell for it. the caller was very polite, then said he was transferring the call to his supervisor ("Thomas Clark"). HE rattled off a list of felony activity that was done with my SSN and said that if I didn't cooperate my SSN and any funds attached to it would be frozen for nine years. He stayed on the line with me the whole while that I was doing what he told me to do. A part of the process was to buy gift cards. He told me to give him the card and access numbers, saying that the numbers I gave him would not allow him use of the cards, only to check balance. I rarely use gift cards so I didn't know I was giving him complete access to the funds. when I was done "Thomas" told me he needed time to enter the card info and that he would arrange a meeting at my Social Security office. There I would hand over the gift cards. The next step would involve two agents coming to me the next morning with a new Social Security card and a check for my money. He even texted me names and badge numbers. Needless to say, they didn't appear. After "Thomas" told me to take a break I became suspicious. I checked the balance on the cards and it was zero for all of them. These guys worked fast. Within about 20 minutes they used the cards to make online purchases.

- SDWFirst call recorded message that said my SS number was suspended. As I know that a U.S. government agency will never call you, but will instead send written notice, I hung up and blocked the number. Two hours later I received a live call saying my SS account had suspicious activity. I asked him what my account number was- he didn't know. I then asked him why he had a middle-eastern accent. Wherapon I was hung up on. This call has also been blocked, and I have not recorded another call.
