ECMC is Educational Credit Management Company.  If you had or have a student loan which you have not paid on or paid off then ECMC is one of the companies that the U.S. government has authorized to collect the money owed them on your student loan.  If you're currently unemployed you should talk to them; you can get a deferment.  They will not leave a message, but it may be in your best interest to talk to them especially if you're unemployed.

Josh at ECMC is a complete jerk.  This guy harassed me for months about an old student loan that my first husband was court-ordered to pay off.  He never paid it so they came after me.  Finally a repayment schedule was worked out and they have received their payments per our agreement.  However, I've been calling Josh there for the past five weeks to get a payoff balance and he won't return my calls.  I recently lost my second husband to cancer and want to pay off all the bills I have outstanding and this guy doesn't seem to want my money.  He's making an emotionally difficult time much more difficult for me.  Low-life.

Unbelievably, the [***] Josh called me back today after I left him yet another message yesterday.  He said his system logs all the calls and that I haven't called him.  Well, guess what, my cellphone records also log every call too and I have called him ... 8 times from 2/1/10 to 3/19/10 plus two more yesterday.  He said unless I apologized to him for saying he wasn't calling me back, he wouldn't give me my payoff amount and then he hung up on me.  What is he, 12?  No wonder he has to hide behind a call center - absolutely no social skills at all - probably covered with warts and oozing acne vulgaris along with a really attractive hump on his back.  Quasimodo comes to mind.  Loser ...

The other number those loan sharks use is 651-221-0037.
I too have had run ins with Josh.  he gets his jollies by getting people upset.  Don't let him get to you.
Many state's Attorney's Genral Offices are aware of this company and the shameless way they operate.  Eventually something  will come around to level the playing field.
Don't let the dogs get you down.

    ECMC Josh

I have been dealing with Josh at ECMC.  I called him on the 15th of July 2010.  I started off by saying that I have been in crisis and have been suicidal.  Being on disability, I have a limited income.  He started to say that I owed a payment.  I said that I thought it was supposed to come out of my bank account.  He said that I had to make a manual payment.  I told him that I wasn't aware of such a payment having to be payed manually.  he then said that I could make the payment now I said that I didn't have the money being that I was on Disability.  He then started to talk about garnishing my disability.  I then said that I could make the payment on the first of August but I didn't have the money he was talking the whole time I was trying to explain my situation.  I repeated that I didn't have the money.  He stopped and said " are you going to keep saying money".  I said that I didn't have the money.  He then said that he could garnish my check and started talking again.  He never stopped.  I tried to get a word in edge wise but he just kept talking.  I listened for quite some time and he never stopped talking he sounded like a recording.  I asked him to stop talking but he kept talking I got very upset and yelled stop talking stop talking stop talking.  He never stopped.  I hung up.  Then I called his voice mail.  I then asked if he could please send me another contract for me to sign and I would be willing to make the nine month payment again and then start the manual payments after that.  After I hung up I called my Congressman.  I complained and wrote a letter asking for help dealing with this company and this guy.  I also wrote all the news agencies and the senator in my state as well.  I was so upset that I started punching myself int he head so hard that I got dizzy.  I have had severe mental issues and have a very hard time dealing with stress.  I am a combat Veteran and have severe issues with aggression.  Apparently me telling him this doesn't matter.  He just acts like I am a low life.  I know that some day this guy and this company will be dealt with.  I hope its by the government.

I have been called by these "people" for three years! every day this includes sat. and sun. I finally got a new cell phone and made an arrangement with my provider that they still report the number as active and not my new number, every cell phone has the ability to have two numbers, it's called duell NAM I just don't answer that nam. what is funny is I put myself through school and never had a student loan. this is a fact they can't grasp. federal court judge has issued an injunction stopping their calls. they have not stopped. the order was issued in 2008. Good luck dealing with these [***].

With your description of him, I don't think you have much room to be talking about immaturity. The easiest thing to do would be to ask to speak with someone else about it if you're having so many problems...I'm sure he's not the only one who works there.

I am so sorry for your loss.

If you go to their web site, there is an address. Just because they collect for the gub'mint does NOT mean they get to harass you. Write a letter, with the log from your cell, telling them about Josh. Be sure to send it RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED. Further, ECMC also has to obey the Fair Debt Collection Act, so be sure to mention in your letter that you no longer want to be called at home, period; that you are contacting the Federal Trade Commission and your state attorney general; and that if they call you again, you will start a lawsuit.

    The address is:

    ECMC
    1 Imation Place
    Building 2
    Oakdale, MN 55128

I turned these people in to my attorney generals office and the
FTC.  I got a copy of the letter today that they sent in response to the complaint I filed.
It pretty much was like the rest of their business practice full of false statements.
I no longer answer their calls due to Josh an his harassment and when you talk to more than one person they can't keep their stories straight.
They took my federal taxes this year and said they sent a letter that I could object to them doing that and I have NEVER recieved any such letter.  And they are threatening to garnish my wages.
I'm in the process of talking to a attorney now and am going for  all I can.
These people are just straight up rude, I don't mind paying my loan but I'm not going to be bullied and talked to like I'm stupid.  There are laws that they are not to harass people and can be sued for it weather you owe the debt or not.

I have been getting calls from this company and I do not have a loan and the person they are calling is not at this number.  But it is coming to my personal number which has not changed for years.  I called twice and asked them to remove the phone number and they tell me this numberdoes not exist in their list.  Is their another company posing as ECMC.  But caller ID has the same number.  To day I am getting a call for another person who has defaulted.  If it is fed authorized collection agency does "do not call list apply to them  They call every day "It is important...C..M  ).  Can this company update information or let us know where to send the complaints for their harassment and incompetence.

i'm actually getting my loan away from them I called the guy that did the response to the Attorney Generals office in my state and he told me that he suspected it was eligible for consolidation so I got on the Dept of Education website filled out the papers and low and behold I can consolidate.
My loan is going back with the Dept of Education and I don't have to deal with Josh and the rest of the crew.   He's arrogant and just rude.
Only thing is when you don't rehab your loan before consolidating it stays on your credit report but at this point I really don't care.   Just getting away from ECMC is good enough for me and the tax offset on my federal taxes will be no more also.
Funny none of the people that called ever mentioned to me the possibility of doing that so I'm glad I called that guy.
They still call me so I just hit talk and then quickly hang up on them.  I refuse to talk to them at all and now that my loan is being taking over by the dept of ed I don't feel the need to answer the call from them and put myself through the rudeness,
I would urge anyone that is able to contact the Dept of Education and see what they have to say.

My mother recieves 3 to 4 calls per day from  ECMC .  It is an automated phone call so she just hangs up. We have tried to get her number off their list and the calls stopped for a while but they have started up again. If she had of had  a student loan it would have been paid off a" few" years ago as she is 86 years old. Duhhhhhh. It's all about money these days. No one gives a hoot about people, just money!!!
