- TINA GThey are trying to perform debt collection. They ask for your social to see if you are even in their system. When I refused to give them my social, they took my name and home ph# and pulled up someone else's name...similar to mine. Sounds like they are grasping at straws and are trying any "lead" they think could get them their $$. If you don't give them your ph#, they will continue to call since it's in their system as a possible lead. Frustrating...but, I guess that's their job when people don't pay their loans or try to ditch the system.
Here is a website that I used to verify they are legit: http://www.finaid.org/educators/phone.phtml- Caller: Direct Loan Service Center

- James| 1 replyThis number IS legit. It's a number with Direct Loans from the US Government. They probably bought out one of your old student loans if you've never heard of them. My wife was 30 days past due (we verified online) and put it in forbearance. We had consolidated with them early last year

- Mattikus replies to ScrewedIt's legit. Before I asked them anything, they were more than willing to verify their organization (it was dealing with a Govt Student Loan), and what they were calling about. They also stated they could not take payment info, so they didn't even ask for any form of account info.
- JennThese idiots keep calling asking for Paula. We've had this number since June 30th and we don't know a Paula. We've told them time and time again that this is a new number and to take our name off the list. They say they will and yet they keep calling! I'm getting sick and tired of this! They constatnly call during the day when my husband is trying to sleep which just angers him more! What can we do to get them to stop calling? If I knew who this Paula chick was I'd gladly forward the information but I don't. Enough is enough! I'm ready to slap a nice little lawsuit on them, maybe they'd learn then??

- Jess replies to DerekNo offense but you are an IDIOT! Most of us receive these calls but they are looking for someone else. These people call us several times a day 6 days a week looking for a Paula.. Ummm.. sorry there is no Paula here, we've only had this number for a month! They say "oh, sorry we'll remove your number from our database".. of course 2 hours later guess whose calling us again. My husband works nights and sleeps during the day and these constant harrassing calls wake him up and piss him off. So why don't you get off your soapbox and open your eyes! Moran!
- Uncle AlI received a phone call from the United States D... L... Center in regards to my student records. I got my Masters Degree in 1982. I have never used student loans. I am now retired. I have stopped several dozen attempts at identity theft. My mom was a victum to ID theft and it took her 1 year and a co-operative policeman to clear her credit records. I returned their call within 2 minutes only to be told that the offices were closed and to call back during regular business hours. Why are they calling outside of regular business hours?
I have two nieces, three grand nieces, three nephews who are currently students or were students last semester. None of these live with me, none of these use my phone as they have their own cell phones.- Caller: United States D.. L.. Center
