was billed 9.99 a month for several months with the mysterious number on my bill. do not know how it came about but also got a "premium text messageing service"

Just happened to me also... talked to my subscriber, to get it taken off, I don't know if it would be same, said I had to text to 41479 then STOP...
CHECK WITH YOUR CARRIER TO MAKE SURE RIGHT TEXT NUMBER.

Misdialed area code as 888 instead of 866 for telephone number 322-1101. Got the we'll send text message blurb.  Received text message from 41479--Reply Y now for connection info on the # you have dialed.  Locator Svc $9.99/month+std msg fees for 20 lookups/month   www.sms181.com STOP 2 end Reply Y now!

Sent text message back to STOP.

Received message back--You are NOT subscribed to the Locator Svc. No further charges apply.  If you need further assistance, please send HELP or call 800-850-5400.

Called 800 number.  Asked my phone number.  Not subscribed.  Will note to take my phone number off list so I won't receive anymore calls from them.

I also missed dialed, hit a 2 instead of 3, but this is what this third party (sms181) scam is hoping for. They tell you that there has been changes to the number you are trying to contact so press star key for the info that has been changed. After you press * then you recieve a text saying you will be charged 9.99 a month. Had to call my carrier and have this kind of scam blocked. sms181 SCAM SCAM SCAM

when i paid my verizon bill................some 'entity' also remove 29.62 from my debit card..and it is a runarond circle to get answers                   mark chambers

this company is still at it-- total scam!  just misdialed as well and got the bogus locater $9.99 message

That happened to me also :( Never ordered it, just got billed for it!

It is unbelievable that this stuff goes on.  I called 877-729-5388, which I thought was the # to a moving company.   I naively pressed the '*' button and then rec'd the text you are all talking about from sms181.com.
Before I even responded to that text, I called my carrier, Verizon.  She said she would block premium messaging from my phone which would somehow solve the problem.  I still don't know what just happened.  I hope I don't start getting weird calls or charges now.

I found this happen to me this morning when dialing a number that was associated to CitiCards.com web site.  I could not recreate it but the site looked legit but then the number I dialed sent me to a mail box that harvested my cell number and sent me a text message.
