I was answering calls at my job, and Valerie called in from this number. Asked to speak with Renita. Advised her we do not have a Renita here in our office. She was rude and said well let me speak with a supervisor. I advised that I would need more info than her name Valerie to pass her to a manager, since I did tell her we do not have a lady here by the name of Renita. Advised her that if my supervisor unavailable that I would have to take a  message for the appropriate person to return her phone call. She then became irate and stated " so you won't transfer me?" I repeated, IF I can NOT get a supervisor on the phone then YES, I would need to take down a message. She was then more upset that I wouldn't give her my supervisors name. I explained she wouldn't give me any info to the nature of her call so that I could assist her in some way or another; whether it was transferring the call or taking a message. She then stated she would just call back to get the info from someone else and hung up.

I am a receptionist for the company. When I answered the call, the lady asked for a specific person whom was in a meeting at the time. We are always supposed to screen our phone calls and do not transfer them over unless the caller is identified with their intent and company information. She would not give me anymore information than "I need to speak with him." She then asked if he would be here all day (Which is not information we are aloud to give out for confidentiality reasons). I told her he was here but would not be available, then asked if it was regarding company business. She said "Yes it is company business but not for your company.". I told her he would need to be contacted on a personal number instead then. She asked for a supervisor. I informed her she was calling the corporate office, that we screen all phone calls, and I would need to know what it was regarding in order to transfer her to anyone. She stated that she did not have to give me that information. I informed her she would need to contact the person she was calling for via personal contact number and thanked her for her time, then hung up. She called back again and demanded a supervisor. I expressed to her that she could give me some more information and identify herself, or she could stop calling our company. She stated that she already did that and did not need to give me any more additional information. I politely told her to stop calling our company then.

Sounds like they are trying to skip trace or at least pretending to skip trace.  BBB has 128 complaints on them and the only one they made available is one that says they have a habit of calling numbers that don't belong to the debtor.  All the other complaints are not available.  This company is a subsidiary of BB&T bank so the BBB might be doing a coverup on the complaints for extra money.

I answer phones at my place of business and Lauren called asking for a specific person. I explained he is not in this office, he works in the shop so I can only pass along a message. She was extremely rude and when I asked what it was regarding and she states "a personal business matter"  I knew it was a collection agency. I still took the message but advised her she was not to contact this place of business again but she hung up on me while I was still speaking. I called back and advised a supervisor there of who she was trying to reach, the number they called and advised they were not to call again.  She was rude and unprofessional and it was not necessary. I use to do skip tracing, you don't have to be rude to do your job. I am very familiar with the FDCPA and will file a complaint if she calls again

I got a bunch of missed calls from them today, they called again so I answered and I heard laughing on the other end. I said hello and they hung up on me.
Why call over and over again only to hang up when I answer?

Just called again a minute later looking for the wrong person. Didn't say who the caller was.

They called me and I picked up, there was a woman laughing. I said hello for the second time and heard laughing again and I hung up. Really unprofessional. I am a receptionist at a company and I know how phone calls should be kept professional. Ridiculous way of running a company.

A woman called me today from this number on my cell phone, and asked for me by name. When I declined to identify myself, she then said two women's names, and asked if I knew them.  I told her one of them was my neighbor but I didn't know her to speak with her. And then she ended the call.  Is it legal for a debt collector to harass a subject's acquaintances?

No, but this is not a 3rd party debt collector.  It appears to be an original creditor which is not covered under federal law and is only covered under state law in 5 states.  You can however still report them.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
