I got a call from this number Friday May 1st at 8PM. Initially I declined the call. It called back again a half hour later. Said "this is a collect call from the Clackamas county jail. Due to insufficient funds you cannot answer this call, to add money to your account press 4." I thought this has gotta be a scam because I pay my cell bill and dont know anyone who would be in jail calling me. If this is a scam, I hope they get caught before taking advantage of someone. It's really annoying.

I ignored it and assumed it was a scam because I pay my cell bill plus when you get a collect call usually you hear the voice of the person you know who is calling you. These types of people who create these scams need to be caught. I feel bad for anyone who has fell for it and given out their acct #

This is not a scam...it a service provided for inmates to be able to reach family members, etc. Maybe the number dialed was in error.

800-913-6097 ... said they were from out local jail and an inmate wanted to talk to us. Then an automated voice just kept talking and talking.

I received a call from this number at 3:56 P.M. August 6th, 2009. It came in on my cell phone, and in my house I don't get good reception. I only understood a few words, and at the end, I think it said "press 5 to repeat this message", so I pressed 5. It did not repeat the massage. Instead, I heard someone saying "hello, hello". I asked who it was and the person asked to speak to someone whose name I didn't recognize. I simply hung up the phone. Who was this, and why was he calling me?

wow really?? its the phone carrier for jails/prisons. NOT A SCAM!! if you get a call, its either someone you know in jail or prison. and if you dont know anyone in jail or prison. then someone that is in there accidentally called your number. communication is very tough between the ins and the outs. sometimes numbers get confused and they call the wrong person. NOT A SCAM people wake up. and if you're wondering how i know this. its cuz my husband happens to be in jail. i know the system through and through. its just a carrier. if you get a call and you dont know anyone in jail/prison well then it was an accident THATS ALL!

Hello-I am just reading through thes postings, I rec'd a call at 2:30 a.m. from Maricopa jail also stating it was collect but no funds avail. fo the call. I added $ to the account, knowing I have a son out there possibly picked up on warrent. When I try to call their customer service and go through ALL the promps, as I am on hold for a live rep, the call keeps disconnecting. The only thing I know is they have my money and I have no way of getting it back. My son doesnt even know his call to me generated this company to intervine. I am reporting the company to my phone carrier, and to the police depts in the phoenix area. Can anyone relate/help/comment? Thank you and hang in there.

Someone said "you have a collect call from Jesus".  I said "what"? and they hung up.  That's it.

I got a call saying my son was in jail and to except the collect call. I Hung up on them I knew my son was not in jail. How do you put a stop to this???

This is a scam to try and get you too accept collect call charges.

Just hang up immediately.

received call today just like most of the other posts.  It's a scam

a random voicemail came through on my phone....i never heard the phone ring.  it was a message in Spanish, so i have NO clue what it said.  I decided to call the number back.  The automatic recording states it's from a "Inmate pre-paid phone service".  A hispanic guy used to have my #.....I'm guessing they were using their "1 phone call" to get a hold of him....too bad.  Kinda creepy though.

Did not answer the number at first. When I did... found out it was a friend of mine in Federal Prison. It's a service that allows family members of incarcerated individuals to credit an amount specifically to your phone without having to send money to the inmate. Best thing to do is find out who is in prison first and if you elect to allow them to call go through the formal website. Otherwise contact the website and have your number blocked as not to receive or accept calls from that number. It is a legitimate service sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

I received a call last night at 8:24 PM but missed it, so the recorded message carried over to my voice mail. It was cut off so I didn't know what it was. Then today, the same number called at 9:11 AM. I picked up and there were several seconds of silence that you would normally hear with a telemarketing message, so I hung up. Then they called a third time at 10:23 AM so I decided to listen to it to find out what it was. It was from the local jail, like others have posted, and it said it was a collect call from "Amanda" recorded in the inmate's voice. I don't know anyone named Amanda, so why is she trying to call me! I think it's a scam... I couldn't be charged just for listening to the message right? I just picked up the phone, but immediately hung up after I heard the name "Amanda". Didn't press any buttons...

Got several calls from this number but didn't answer. VM sounds like only a partial message and to call back 097 to add funds to my account. I sure don't have an account with people I don't knwo and I don't know anyone in jail either. It's totally a scam!
