It is a Chase number but it's being spooffed/faked to commit robbery. This man actually tried to tell me if I don't open a Zelle acount, they'll have no where to send my refund of $4,999.95 that isn't even missing from my account. I almost fell for it too. Hubby and I drove to the branch while stalling the guy on the phone. As soon as he found out we were in the branch he said, "I'll cut the line" and hung up. Now I'm canceling all cards and watching my account like a hawk. Always hang up and call their fraud department yourself who's number you'll find on the back of your card. I can't believe I almost fell for this.

There is no reason Chase would have you open an account with ANYONE for a refund if you were actually due one. They would simply refund it you your CHASE account.

Someone claiming to be from Chase fraud department. They weren’t from Chase. They tried to get me to log into my bank account. To supposedly stop zelle payment that wasn’t even on there.

I think this number is BOTH a real Chase number and is also being spoofed by fraudsters. If in doubt, call Chase yourself to see if there is an issue or go to your online account. Do not automatically give your information out when you are called.  A few months ago I got fake fraud alerts via text, then calls from this purported number. They were very persistent and called over and over again. I called Chase (as I do have an account with them) and they said there was no unknown or suspicious acting on my account. I just got another couple of calls from this number with no message and nothing suspicious on my account. So ... be careful if anyone calls you asking for personal account information. Call the bank yourself at their posted phone number and you can be sure of reaching real bank employees, rather than fraudsters trying to get your money.

4/29/22: DO NOT ANSWER THESE CALLS OR TEXTS! They seem legit but I can assure you - they are not. I received a Fraud alert via "Chase" text today with the normal canned language '. . . did you authorize or attempt this transaction - reply Yes or No". I replied NO. It was for a large amount of money via Zelle.

Then I received a phone call from 1-800-935-9935. Before I answered, I did a phone number lookup and it checked out to actually be a Chase number - so I answered. The person informed me of the fraudulent activity and proceeded to walk me through a dispute process. The suspicious thing is, they were trying to get me to send another Zelle for the EXACT amount with a Memo note of "RAV" to dispute the charge. RED FLAG - so I pushed back - asking "Why would I send a request using Zelle for the same amount I am trying to dispute? Why can't you just deactivate my Zelle account?" The reassuring and seemingly helpful voice went quiet and they immediately HUNG UP.

They did not ask for account numbers, debit card information, SSN or anything that would initially trigger suspicion.

I immediately called the Chase Fraud Department myself (from a landline), which also happens to be the same number that called me.

These scammers have found a way to use this number to contact you. Chase is aware of the breach into their phone system and advised to NOT accept calls from the number. The representative deactivated my Zelle account and did not prompt me to take any of the steps the previous caller asked me to do.

I asked "Well, how will I know if it is safe to continue using this number if scammers are using this exact same number - FROM YOUR AUTHENTICATED SITE?" " Will you update your sites with a new toll-free number?"

The Chase representative in the Fraud department advised they have received several complaints about this very same tactic for months and that they have been working on how to resolve this breach. I asked why they haven't sent out communication to their Customers and he gave a generic response of " we are looking into this issue" - which is not reassuring AT ALL!

Be safe out there guys! I hope this helps someone.
