have yet to answer this call but seriously...reading all these comments makes me laugh...for those saying its not a scam, are you not reading the other comments? ... what i believe is going on is that some of these calls are legit while others are fake as if someone is "hacking" if thats even possible(which it probably is). so basically from the information gathered on this site..if they ask for youre SSN, its a scam. if you have AT&T and they dont ask for your SSN, its probably not part of the scam.

If you pick up the phone and call the number back, you will clearly hear that it is AT&T.  If you've never had an AT& T or cingular account, then they're probably calling you because they have a wrong number or they are calling a number that used to belong to one of their customers.

Let me phrase it more accurately:
1.Some of the calls are legit.
2.Some of the calls are spoofed from unknown persons pretending to be the real deal.

    Is that clearer for everybody?

Some spoofers are now using real people's phone numbers as spoof covers and leaving the owners of that number to pick up the flack from the spoofer's victims.  There should be a special place in jail for spoofers who do that, not to mention a special place in HELL.

They are calling me and it is AT&T. They are horrible. My husband passed away in April 25th of 2012. The contract was in his name and when he signed it we told them he was terminally ill and asked what would happen if something happened to him. They said the contract would be dissolved without any problems as long as I brought in a death certificate. So I took in a death certificate but I didn't do that until may of 2013. I kept the bill paid. Never was late or anything and ask them what I could do. They said keep the bill paid and all will be ok, so isaid great and leave. 2 hours later I get a call from them and say the phone is going to be canceled in 7 days and once they cancel the number I can never get it back. Well my husband and I have had that number for 15 years. I didn't want to lose it. So I had seven days to figure out what I was doing so I went back to them and they told me if I wanted to keep the number with them that I would have to pay a $145.00 disconnection fee for canceling the contract. I said I didn't cancel it, you did because my husband died. They said well you have to pay that. So I went to Verizon and they transferred my number for free so so long AT&T.

The call has something to do with AT&T.  If I needed information from AT&T I would call them directly, not respond to this call that interrupted my breakfast and that NeNe and others have advised - is NeNe involved, one wonders..  I now deal with no, repeat NO, marketers whatsoever.

So what you're saying is... If you give a bill collector your credit card #, they'll use your credit card to legitimately pay the bill that you've legitimately ran up? THE SCANDAL!!!!

This IS AT&T's collection agency, if you're really getting your panties in a bunch over it being an 800 number, simply ignore the call and pay your overdue bill via the AT&T app or the AT&T website and the calls will stop.. At least until the next time you neglect to pay your bill

HERE'S A  DIRECT QUOTE FROM THEIR WEBSITE:
"If you have selected a payment date that falls after the bill due date, you will only have the option to edit the payment method. To change the payment date, amount, or make other arrangements, contact a Receivables Management Representative at 800.947.5096." (NOTICE THE PHONE NUMBER)

I received several call from this number with no one talking, once a day for 5 days. It was a call and a blank until I hang up. I was late on my ATnT bill so I assume this call came from ATnT. It's really weird that no one was actually letting me know that I was late on my payment... Maybe it's an automatic call failure, the message was not playing but the call is sent... ??

Maybe  ATnT want that we forget to pay our bill... and charge the reactivation fees. But they can claim they actually called you since there is a proof of call.
