Basically it is a very cheap software program that allows Caller ID Spoofing.

This number just called me as well. I knew I recognized it (as someone who has dealt with CRA a lot) but the fishy thing about it was there was an extra ‘1’ in front of the number, (so 1-1-800-959-8281), and underneath it said the call was coming from the US. I tried calling the number back and got a busy signal. The same people called me before and left a message with some firm dude saying I was under investigation, warrant out for arrest etc. Just as others have mentioned below. What a crock. The first time it happened I called CRA right after to find out what that was about, and they told me they are getting more and more calls about this. I doubt many people fall for it. It’s unfortunate that the people who ACTUALLY work for CRA have to deal with all sorts of people calling to ask about his on top of their already heavy work load. Especially around tax season. The wait times to get through were already long... these people need to screw off!

Got this call yesterday and they left a voicemail and a guy named officer Mike Johnson with badge ID no. 7860 saying that I have been randomly checked and  I have been charged with tax fraud and tax evasion , that I owe CRA $4,998.00 CAD. If I'm not able to settle it right away, they said I could be jailed for 5 years and have to pay $97,711.00
I got so scared as I have 3 young kids. They even called H&R block and a certain Michael Ray confirmed that something is wrong on their end and that I have to talk to the officer and ask for payment options and tell him that it is not my fault.If not I will be arrested . So to cancel the arrest warrant , I have to pay by buying Steam Cards and iTunes cards worth $4998.00
One lady at Shoppers Drug Mart told me that there is a scam like that. So I decided not to proceed and ignored Mike Johnson who told me that the call is being recorded so I should not end it.

It rang and rang, then the robot said “ this is a courtesy call from CRA”.  Hang up immediately. Display shows GOC-GDC. But nowadays, what you see is not really what it is.

No message no caller ID.  The number 1-800-959-8281 when googled comes up as CRA  and when calling back got an automated message saying all operators are busy, but if you would like to do an inquiry on your status where they ask for personal information. Confirmed with my accountant, that the CRA would not call every day and
not identify themselves. They usually communicate through mail.  Accountant said do not give out any information and they felt it was a SCAM!

Got a missed call from this number, called it back and went directly to CRA's Call Center and they told me there wasnt any issue on my account, best bet its a SCAM

The allers were ggressive mannered. Threatened me of charges. Banks being seized all my money is gone. Told me to et lawyer first 3 calls from 226 401 3036 then i said call from revenue canada numbrrs they 3 to 4 times called i have voice mails from them

The same people called my wife threathening her with an arrest warning. They called with a different number:  514 437-3029, à Montréal number. I sensed it was scam. So I called back and confronted them. The guy ended up being very agressive and using swear word. Total scam. Then he called back and said to my wife that they were going to make us sh..t.

I received a call stating if I don't respond to their calls, the RCMP will be banging at my door, for my
arrest!

It is definitely the same scam that has being going around for a couple of years. I got a call at 7:00 a.m on a Sunday. It woke me up and I answered the phone in error and it was a lady with a very clear English and
the first thing she said was that a warrant had been.... That is when I cut her off. Unfortunately they are using 4 or 5 different numbers and it is hard to block them all off. At least this one is blocked.

This is the true Canada Revenue Agency number but with a threatening message for arrest if not call back.I believe CRA number has been hacked by scammers.This is why some of the callers attempt to call back and a different number shown on call display.

Just received a call from this number saying they are from CRA. And they have arrest warrant against me. I should either pay $4000 now or $97000 later. Wow!! Anyone else had this?

Called twice this morning with that stupid message  (arrest warrant) . LAUGHABLE....

This is SCAM. Don't believe them. They can show any number on your phone screen. They ripped my off

Definitely a scam. They said that I owe the CRA a large sum of money for tax fraud. I pay every year and the amount they said I owe was two years pay (hey I'm a student we don't earn that much a year). They also love to disconnect whenever you don't give them anything. Don't answer and waste your time.

1-800959-8281 called my cell twice today.....missed both calls ...btw I have never given out my cell # , so there is no reason to be receiving calls on it.

CRA Scam because they called my cell number. I never registered my cell number with them.
