I just got a Social Security callback from this number, 800-997-9540. I requested one earlier today. Caller ID said "Social Security." The gentleman asked enough questions to make me confident he was legit. I was worried about getting a scam call and in fact got one an hour earlier from a woman saying she was calling about Medicare, That one sounded suspicious.

Is this a legitimate number for social security?  I received a call back for social security from this number, gave them all the information she requested & then the call was lost.  If this is a scam, please help.

blame you my dear I just got a call from the real social security administration office and was asked for all my information like they do I didn't feel uncomfortable because her voice was in the right way how social security speak I had 2 do my 2025 review and don't u know as soon as I hung up about 5 minutes later my phone rung from 1 800 997 9540 and she said the is Angela you called me I said who she said Angela from social security you just called me I said excuse me ma'am I didn't call you she then say ok this is social security but if u didn't call ok bye and I googled the phone number and yes I got the same thing it's told me that it's social security administration call back number so am confused 🤔

Omg, I didn't know this was a scam number. I thought this was social security administration. Bc the call said public trust..

BLUF:  The number is a return phone call
requested from the Social Security administration.  Since the call was 3  hours after the predicted “turn in line” and came from an “unknown number,” the phone didn’t ring.  They called 17 times in two minutes …and never left a voicemail…  The CID (from Verizon?) said “Public Service.“

Yeah, you can speak to the automated voice tree right away, but if you need to talk to a humanoid… Hang it up. You either have to wait, or they call you back at “your turn in line.“

Does that make you feel more intelligent to berate another person that way?

Oh, so you are going to keep posting until I give an answer? Ok, well, I like being helpful and some people get jealous they didn't think of it and others just don't comprehend what was said. So the answer is no.

I received call back from 800-997-9540. I also felt uncomfortable giving the information but I had called and requested call back on my # I left, so I feel it was legitimate.

They just called me too, I asked a specific question about possibly going back to work part time and the parameters for that. And he asked for my ss#. Made me uncomfortable because they didn't lead with a badge number or anything. So I told them, I'm going to call back. Hope I didn't lose place in line.

Not sure if this is what it says... haven't called back this number because I have a different number...not sure if that is legit either
