I live in Virginia and the call comes up on my caller ID as 415-6039 Local Call.  When I tried to call it I received an operator message stating that I must first dial one and then the area code.  How can it be local??

Has called several times without leaving a message, early as 8:19 a.m and late night about 8:45

Called at 11:57 AM. I was at school! no message left and no id of the person. I thought it was a relative Turns out that a lot of people are getting complaints for it.

These nitwits call in the morning and evening. I am in Indiana. They never leave a message. It has gotten worse.

Calls and leaves no message.

Have called three times this week, usually between 0800-0830 AM... then again about 5pm.  Number prefix trace indicates its originating from a landline in City of Hopewell Va.  Never leaves a message, hangs up before machine picks up.  

The Do Not Call list is just a feel good legistlation that has no real substance. Most proclaim to be a third party caller "on behalf of..." to skirt around it.. Non commerical charity listed organizations are exempt from the list... so many just claim to have some association with a charity org.. thus dive under the radar of legal backlash... "Local Call".. most of these spammers know how to alter the caller ID that shows up on your phone... mostly to get around the annonymous call rejection settings that some people use to thward them...

Go by Walmart and buy one of those small boat air horns... keep it handy by the phone... if you know its a spammer... answer it... sound interested and talk in a whisper so that they will turn up the volume of their phone head sets... place the bell of the horn into phone... HONK !!... gets their attention not to call back... lol..

Calls at least once a day.  I never answer the phone unless I can identify the caller.  Legitimate callers (and some not so) always leave messages, identifying themselves, and then I call them back.  This one does not.

Since I live in Virginia and know people in the area code this comes from, when I first started getting these calls I wondered if they were coming from someone I know, but after many calls and no voice mail messages, I decided to see what I could find out, and here I am!  Wow, at least now I know that I'm not the only one getting these annoying calls!

Same as above, except it says "Local Call" on my caller ID, which doesn't make sense as I don't live in that area code.  I donated several weeks ago to the VA FOP and sent my pledge in as soon as it came in the mail. Make a donation and this is the thanks we get?  Between this, and a political donation I made months ago, I am getting pestered all the time.  Apparently it gives them some way to skirt the do-not-call list.  If I had known what a can of worms it would open up, I never would have donated to either.

Whoever called me from that number called me on my cell phone, which I do not give out to anyone except family and friends, so this freaks me out. I don't know how they got my number but they knew my full name.  I hung up on them.

I get a call from this number at least once a day - have donated to the police and environment colorado once and have been harrassed every since - how is VI local to Denver?

STOP CALLING!

Pick up the phone and put them on hold long until they hang up. Keep them busy for nothing. If you hang up right away they will bother another person.We need stand up together ask for Congress do some with those scam. Ask Congress allow phone company Right to refuse service for these scam. If a lot of people complain to phone company, phone company have to stop them service. Also FBI to find out where all money go.

SOB's started calling my house today (7/20/08).  Thank goodness for caller ID.  No messages are ever left and I refuse to pick up a number I don't recognize.

They called at 8:43 a.m. on a Saturday.  I was dead asleep, eyes glued shut, brain not wired, and I could barely make out the caller i.d. which only said "Local."  This was a repeat call, and no fund-raiser should call that early in the morning.  I hate it.

Maybe if we contact the Virginia Fraternal Order of Police directly, it might help.  Big emphasis "might."  Just complaining to a real person makes me feel better.
