I got a call from this number this evening, to my CELLPHONE! My cellphone has a new, never-before-assigned number, and I haven't yet given it out to ANYBODY!!!

I made the mistake of answering it. After all, it was the first call to my new phone. They said something about offering me a great interest rate on something, and to press one if interested. So I pressed one and eventually a nice sounding girl came on the line and started talking. I interrupted to ask her (not very politely) if it isn't illegal to call me on a cellphone. She said no, and continued on about getting a good interest rate on something. I hung up.

Sorry I didn't listen more carefully, so I could report more here.

Is your new number in a newly-created area code?  If not, your number was almost certainly used by someone before you got it.  Its possible the previous owner was  deadbeat.

Some of these folks use auto-dialers.  The call every number in every exchange in every area code.  Thats illegal, but they can be hard to catch.

April 8th, 2010: Call came in on the cell phone. A young woman left a message but did not give a name or company.  Told me that although I have been making partial payments [unknown]  this was my last change to resolve the payment issue. Told me to phone back and provided at a different number  than the number she used to call the cell phone; number given: 888.442.0668.

Just received a message on our general business line, but the beginning of the message was cut of.  The young lady said something about payments, offering better interest, and left the following number: 1.888.442.0668.

Guessing this is spam so want to spread the message.
