If everybody here says this is a scam, why do they have an A+ rating on the BBB website?  I am trying to make an educated decision, but all I see here is cynical comments.  I saw a few people say they have reported them to the F.C.C. but has anyone actually been scammed?  Has Emerge taken anyone's money and not followed through with what they said they would do.  Does anyone have any real advice?

I live in Tampa, Florida and know of Jacobs and Matthews. The are a debt settlement firm. The negotiate on your behalf to settle the law suit you're involved in before it gets to the courts. It saves you legal fees, time and aggravation. Obviously if you have an outstanding lawsuit from B 2 B, 9 times out of 10 you are in a financial bind. What they do is provide your financial hardship to opposing counsel, and they save everyone a trip to a civil court house. It is very ligit, and real. If you think it was a scam, it's because you were to haste to get off the phone and give them the time of day. They have never scammed anyone, and that it not why they are successful. They have been in business now for almost 7 years and continue to help businesses in tough situations. It is not a collections agency, they have not been hired by anyone to call you. They purchase public records via equifax etc., and use a cold calling sales pitch. They know you are being sued even if you don't. Once the lawsuit is on file, it goes on public record immediately. You might not have been "served" due to the fast a process server hasn't located you yet. So give them a shot, chill with the ignorance and arrogance. If you owe $100,000 in taxes, or past due payments to a manufacturer /laborer, they will settle the debt at $60,000 as a rule of thumb and they make there money in the negotiation process. Maybe only giving the attorneys $45,000. Keeping $15 grand.

Worthless!  Hire an attorney if you are being sued...not a debt collections practice.  When a complaint is filed, validity of the complaint should be legally tested -- a debt collection firm cannot test this validity as they are not an attorney and are not authorized to practice law.

"The[y] negotiate on your behalf to settle the law suit you're involved in before it gets to the courts."

It almost sounds if they are trying to represent you in a lawsuit- similar to an attorney.  I wonder if this representation has been tested in court yet?  It sounds as though it may not be legal.  JD gives wise advice- hire an attorney.  Thus company may act like they are saving you money, but all they are actually doing is to try to get you to pay the claim and, in turn, them.  Often the lawsuits which are brought against individuals or organizations lack merit.  In other words, they are suits in which you would not be required to pay.  Without legal representation, the defendant would not know this.  Also, in many legal actions one can file a claim against the plaintiff if they are wrongfully filed against.  If one uses a collections company in this respect, then you will pay regardless of the merit of the claim!

Using a debt collection company to settle, or negotiate in a, legal dispute is akin to using Scotch tape to hold a house door closed while a burglar is standing outside eying that same house.

What planet are you from? The planet NAIVE?

The only thing these crooks negotiate is how much MONEY they can STEAL from you. The only time they'll ever see the inside of a courtroom is when they are CRIMINAL DEFENDANTS -- let's hope it happens soon!

Janet Haas w/ Emerge180 called, today regarding "a legal matter" insisting she must speak with the owner of the company.  Upon hearing the call center atmosphere in the background, I doubted very much she was with any sort of legal company.  She became very agitated and rude when I refused to transfer her call.  I laughed at her after getting the name of the company wrong and she wanted to know why I was wasting her time.  She became very rude and agitated before she hung up on me.  Hahahaha

Marty Saaz left two messages on our answering machine regarding a "legal matter".  He said that a company named "Century Tower" had filed a lawsuit against us for $4028, and that he could help settle this out of court for about half of the amount, and gave a reference case number of #32-207.  He said up front on the message that he was with Emerge180 and his phone number was 813-341-0516. I could hear others talking on the phone in the background.

This is questionable (as others have stated) because our company he is refering to has been out of business for about 17 years, and I can find no record of a company called "Century Tower" (Century Towers is a residential condo sales office in Chicago and New York).  Dont know why a condo realtor would file a lawsuit against a defunct childrens' party service.

While they were supposingly negotiating with the FDIC on an Avanta  Business line of credit, which we refused to pay at 40% interes t(not a typo) inlieu of a 600.00 dollars fee and 1% of the settlement price. Helen and her associates claim FDIC went behind their backs and garnished the Business account for 10K. I think it's all BS . emerge works with the loan co and for the loan co, in this case the gov't meanwhile collecting fees from their so called clients. Stay away from Emerge 180. crooks, leeches.

Got a call from a woman at Emerge180 at 813-341-0509 today saying she could settle a judgment against us for 60% of the amount including their fee. Told her the other party wouldn't go for it and we are appealing so not paying anything. She seemed pleasant enough but not sure where she got the info from. Glad you all wrote on this website. With all the scammers out there, wouldn't have done it anyways. Thanks everyone.

We can add Anthony Perez to the list of names from emerge 180.  One of my employees got a call from them because he was in a car accident and we're being sued.  The fact that we have insurance and the insurance company has been working on it i told the guy to lose my number and eat [***].  I don't like predators...and they do find suckers because this number has been getting comments for at least 2 years!  The longer I can keep them on the phone the less chance they have to get someone to agree to their terms.

Some of these stories are laughable.  This company has been in business 20 years and is an accredited A+ rating with the BBB.  But I guess you would say that is a scam also.   You people who huddle in 1-800 notes making up stories about businesses being scams just because they sell by phone need to stop being so ignorant.  I have posted the link to the BBB below and I would like one of you geniuses to explain how a business that has been around 20 years and is accredited and has a A+ rating with the BBB can be a scam.  For those of you who are called and read this thread please go to the BBB link below and learn about the company.  How many financial companies out there have A+ rating with the BBB these days, not many.

Its obvious some of you are are making your stories a little more colorful then they actually were at the time you were called.  This company has helped a tremendous amount of people over the years and shouldn't be slandered because they offer their services by phone.
