Someone identifying themselves as J. Webb with Hamlin Ross Associates called my sister and my mother. When they called my sister she informed them that I wasn't there and that she didn't think they could call her for me. Mr. Webb replied, Oh yes I can, and hung up. Then called my mother and told her that if I didn't call by 3pm today they were going to take my case to court and get a judgment against me. Informed her they had only waited this long becuase of the Coronavirus.   They left this 833-437-0484 for me to call back, but I called the number they were calling form instead 919-436-3239 and a lady named Sarah answered with the simple greeting of "hello"  I asked who the company was and she wouldn't identify it. Then I said you can't call my family threatening lawsuits etc. She informed me I was yelling at the wrong person, and if I gave the number they had called she could connect me with the person I needed to speak to. I asked for the name of the company again and their physical address, she replied, she didn't have to give me that information. I said ma'am do you have any idea how many federal laws you are breaking, and she hung up.  I then called back and got a voicemail for the company. Mr. Ross told my mother they were calling on behalf of Buncombe County with a Raleigh area code.   Just wanted to let you all know this is illegal collections probably for an illegal loan or shady loan company.

Also companies website has no identifying information either. I smell scam or illegal collections

Called my place of employment and wanted to talk to me. the person had the last 4 digits of my SS number and said that they were unable to serve me papers from the county that I live in. Funny thing is I am good friends with our local sheriff so if that was true I would have been easily found idiots. Lesson learned don't ever apply for a loan on line because you might think its only going to one company its not it can potentially go to many lenders some lagit and some bad. I have excellent credit and nothing is negative on my file. The person was representing Hamlin and associates his name was Jim McMillan if that's true at all SCAM or zombie debt collectors. Keep in mind professional registered debt collectors don't call your place of employment and spew out SS numbers Period this is a scam.

I’ve been called 8 or 10 times over the past 3 months from someone at Hamlin Ross & Associates.  My experience is identical to all the reports on this site.  It’s enough to drive me crazy.  There is nothing to be done about these calls.  My advice is to never answer a call you don’t identify on your phone and do not return the call, ever.

    Why isn't the FBI
Why isn't the FBI getting these people? They call with a very threatening message that they are "investigating a case against" me and I need to contact them or they'll report me to the proper jurisdiction.

I don't do illegal things, so nobody has a case against me or needs to investigate me. This is clearly a scam.

And let's not even mention the fact that they call from a local number and if you call it back you get someone who has no idea what you're talking about. This has been going on for a year. Come on, now.

This entity called me my me from 833-437-0484 ext 104 to my place of employment and a friend with threats of law enforcement action, Arrest, garnishment of wages and that if I didn't call by a specific time that same day they would have papers filed and a officer sent to my house. This dirt ball even went on to say that my friend would be charged as well and papers served to them also. This entity has violated just about every state and federal law. The dirt bag also stated that they were being patient due to Covid. I looked on my states web site and Hamlin Ross law associates is not registered with the state. So Jim McMillin if you read this I am laughing at you if that's even your real name,

Well, we start by posting in the correct thread and not anywhere you feel like posting.  That thread would have easily come up in a web search.

I just received a call in which I was told I owed for a debt in 2012. The person then rattled some information and when I tried to tell them to send me the paperwork to resolve the issue, the person became loud, which then I became loud and hung up on them. Then because I knew the law they decided they were going to tell me again it was recorded and call the police on me. I really would hate to do such a cesspool of a job. In the end I guess if a garnishment comes from 2012 well then it comes. I run my credit and seen NOTHING on my credit from anyone.

Very rude.  When I told him that google says they are a scam company the man named Ron became very loud and rude going on about how they arent a scam and he works for a legal law firm.  The Hamlin Ross whatever whatever is real. He was almost screaming at me.  He wouldnt let me get another word in so i slammed the phone down in his ear.  Left the # 833-437-0484 extension 111 with my husband but wouldnt tell him anything.  They had both his and my social security numbers and the makes and models of our vehicles.  Said something about a debt from a bank called Celtic Bank who gave me a loan for my vehicles.  Well first off the one vehicle is still being financed.  i havent had good enough credit to even get a payday loan. Or enough money.  Dont fall for the bs.  i will be filing a complaint with the BBB and possibly my local police dept.

The local police will not get involved in this.  The BBB is a worthless, toothless organization.  I'm not sure why everyone thinks they are so great.  The proper places to report follow:

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Received a call from 7177983704 saying that my husband was being contacted by Hamlin Ross and Associates and that this would be the last time they are calling before judgement is placed against him. They said to call 833-437-0484. I called the number back who called me and when I said I didn't know my husband she got rude and said well then why did you ask what it was regarding. I said, because you called me. She said that doesn't even make sense, tell him we'll see him in court. What a joke!
