I received this text message on my cell phone, from 833-706-1202.
"Good Afternoon Julia, you have a important document delivery
scheduled for 9-14-2021.  For more info call 833-554-3181 today.
Acct #21L-11967."  My name is not Julia, and I am not expecting a
document delivery.  I called the origin number, 833-706-1202. It was a
busy signal.  I called the call back number and a man answered asking if
I was given a reference number.  I hung up.  A few minutes later I
received a phone call from 844-685-6863. I did not answer but suspect
that the call was a call back from when I hung up. I will report all three
phone numbers on this website, for a cross reference.

Same thing happened to me except they told me they was a mediation fi and I was being sued for a online payday loan I supposedly took in 2016.

A friend had this same text and phone call today. The person on the other end stated that they had taken a loan out in 2016 and long story short, they needed to pay x amount of money or be taken to court and the cost would be tripled. I called the number back on MY phone. The person that answered was able to generate (just from my phone number) my name and birthdate!!!!!! How???? I did not nor have not received any form of communication from them prior to me calling them!

The fake process server/location finder extortion SCAM usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

This number sent me a text with a number to call and a reference number they had all my information said i had court documents sent to all of my addresses which was correct. and had my friend email said she possible  did it online to get a payday loan.

I received a VM stating that there is document delivery to me scheduled in two days with a return number of 833-554-3181.  They asked me to confirm my name and DOB (which they had) but I refused to answer and asked only who they are.  They claimed to be a "mediation" service and when I said I had never heard of them, they said that if I had never dealt with the courts before, I would not have heard of them.  I responded that I have dealt often with courts before as I am a lawyer. They stated that I should therefore have a "package" and when I continued to ask what this was about, they stated it is confidential and they cannot give information unless I confirm identity which I refused to do.  Just a heads up:  a court proceeding is public.  Anyone who says they cannot give you information about a court claim is lying, as these people were doing.  The effort clearly was to obtain my personal information by fishing with my published phone number.  Don't be fooled.

Actually, the effort was to try scaring you into thinking you're being taken to court. If you'd fallen for their fake process server scam, they'd have told you that you could pay your way out of being served - which is untrue.

The same here. First I supposedly took out a loan in 10/2016 and when I called back it had changed to 5/2016. They assured me that I would receive docs via the mail suing me for a payday loan nonpayment.

Their assurance was a lie. REAL process servers don't call in advance.

Interesting how not a single one of those numbers comes close to resembling the number at the top of this page which is 833-554-3181.  Why is that?
