I just blocked them, you see what these companies do is buy bad debts usually unsecured debts like credit cards there is nothing they can do because you havnt put up any property’s (chattel) to secure the debt all they can do is harrass you but in Canada there are rules usually the only thing at risk us your rating and even if you pay it your credit is still done, so do your research people!!!!!

It called my kid's cell every day, soon after the cell number activated and this company called. How can you own money from 1st time using this number. I will file a complaint to the phone provider as they are recycling the phone numbers and they should take the responsible to stop these calls to the new owner.

That makes no sense what-so-ever! How do you expect the service provider to know the difference between calls to the previous subscriber and the current subscriber? Perhaps you should be more responsible and use parental controls in the phone settings.

Yes, it is common knowledge that all phone numbers are recycled otherwise no one would have a phone since they would all be used up.  How about you take personal responsibility for protecting your child?  For instance have you notified the debt collector that this number no longer belongs to the alleged debtor?  Have you done that by your version of certified, return receipt mail?  Have you set parental permissions on that phone to prevent calls coming in from unknown sources?  My guess is that would be too much responsibility for you?

How would I take responsible to protect my child when the previous owner used this phone number as the contact for their debit???  The parental controls on the setting didn't prevent these calls going through, I teached my kid how to block the number, but they just kept using other number to call. not mentioned that the phone that it was blocked sometime can get through. Before you judged someone is not taking responsible, maybe you should ask what they already did, or maybe come up something that it is useful! Maybe something that the phone provider to do for us!!

Highly unlikely the caller knows it is a kids phone now, so there was no reason to even mention it here. Maybe you should think about something before going on a public message board and ranting about something you are not familiar with. As a parent, crying on a phone number look up site isn't going to solve the issue one way or the other. FYI, there are apps, such as a whitelist where you get to input ONLY the numbers you allow to ring through.

Yes, I'm sure your service provider can help.  Contact them and explain the situation; they will probably change the number for free.  I had my number spoofed by scammers and my provider changed my number immediately.  It was a bit of a hassle reporting my new number to friends, family and businesses but worth the "trouble."  Good luck.

OK, so what did you do as far as your responsibility to end the calls?  Did you notify this debt collector that they are contacting a minor as in verbally?  By mail (the preferred way and sent so that they have to sign for it)?  Any other way or are you simply expecting them to know that they are not calling the right number anymore?  The only thing that the phone company is going to do is issue you a new number that  belonged to someone else.  Now this is a learning experience for your child as you can both research what needs to be done and you can show him/her how to follow through on it instead of depending on everyone else to do what you should be doing.

also you should google a little more information on how many people get stress from those calls that they don't have anything to do with the debts. If it is too much responsibility for me, I would not be on computer and google all over the place to find a way to stop this... So don't judge people by little that you know when they already did so much.

Right, swap one number for another one that someone got rid of because they were getting even more calls.

You much like to teach people, but before you teach people and ask them what they already know, because it would become very offensive.

I'm not sure how I could "google" something like that but I just gave you a whole bunch of ideas on how to stop the calls and my money is on the fact that you won't do a single one of them because it would require you to do something to help yourself.  I know for a fact that Canada has several websites up that tell you how to handle debt collection calls yet with all your "googling" you didn't find a one did you?

You are the one who made this silly post public and now you are crying over your mistake in what you posted, that the phone service provider and a debt collector should know its a kids number now, really, you needed to post that as if other call recipients will get it too and someone else should be taking care of it?

Or maybe, you are just trolling for attention.

I have no idea what that means.  Maybe try reposting it in actual English that makes sense?
