- Caller: Fraud
- Call type: Debt collector
- Uber_Troll| 1 replyI trolled the hell out of the guy calling from 1-844-240-3123 until he got so mad he was going to give me his personal phone number, didn't like me running up his 844 charges, he gave me the area code 416 before chickening out, he is in the Toronto area.
- Caller: CRA
- Call type: Prank
- Angry replies to Anonym| 1 replyI received a call as well saying that I needed a criminal lawyer by the CRA. Needless to say they are scammers. I had police call them and they hung up. I will report this as well to the Canadian Anti Fraud
- pierreScam artists. Is the anti-fraud unit doing anything? May be they have no staff? Better use the medias for a fast track solving case?
Do not answer their request since they are crooks.
Do not give them your name (do not at all)
Do not do any business with them since they are crooks and nobody seems to care for what they are doing: meaning defrauding old people and younger as well
Do not return any call at 844 240 3123 (cannot locate them, even with internet tools)
By the way, this caller is not a debt collector, it is a plain scam artist pretending to be a credit company.- Caller: 844 240 3123
- Hara from TorontoI received two calls yesterday and I called back. I called from work after my husband listened to the msg. at hom . The man who answered identified himself as Michael Brown and gave me an ID # and case #. He said I owed 3500 for the past six years and that I misrepresented my earnings on my tax returns. He said I would be placed under custody and put in jail in the courts for 72 hours. When I told him this is impossible since I actually got money back from the government he abruptly told me not to interrupt and that this call was being recorded and monitored by the RCMP. He was quite abrupt through the rest of the call and to beo quite honest I got a little scared that perhaps I was the victim of identity theft and they had somehow screwed up my record. At the end of the call I was asked: so what do you want to do about this? In retrospect, this is the point at which they would hope you say 'I can send you the money now!' I, of course told him I will get a lawyer and fight it. He told me to stay at work and that the police are coming to arrest me. I asked him 'do you know where I am'? Ridiculously enough he replied 'the police are tracing this call and they will find your location- Do not flee.
ALL THIS FOR APPARENTLY $3500?
I called the police and was told that this is all a scam and that they have been getting fhundreds of calls per day. There is no investigation started yet because not many people hLLactually fallenhv victim to this prank.
DO NOT LISTEN TO ANHTHING THEY TELL YOU- Caller: Inman. Mm
- Chewbacca-the-WookieThese are the same scambags who have been posing as IRS agents in the States. The scams typically operate from India and Pakistan. The dead giveaway is the Indian accent. If the CRA is anything like the IRS (which I assume they are), they will NOT call you if there is a problem with your taxes. They will ONLY contact you via regular mail. Anyone who calls you to settle tax issues over the phone is trying to scam you. Being that they are operating overseas, they are practically impossible to prosecute, but just the same, it's always a good idea to report them to your local and federal authorities. At the very least, the authorities can issue a fraud alert to help prevent others from being taken by the same scam. Also, it might not be a bad idea to alert your local media (newspaper, TV, radio, etc) so they can spread the word.
Jonathan Brandmeier is a syndicated radio host based in Chicago. He mocks the scammers regularly and calls them on his show, giving their numbers out on the air so his listeners can phone-bomb them. If you have voice-mails from the scambags, you can e-mail the messages to him, and he'll have some on-air fun with these folks:

We need more people in the media who are willing to expose these idiots. - Kevin in Taxoronto replies to Uber_Trollyes, I was bored too.... so I made a number of calls to these fraudsters via skype and other anonymous services - don't need them getting my number to return the favour.
They started hanging up as soon as they saw "unknown number" on their call display numerous times in a row.
Unfortunately telecommunications is cheap these days so it's unlikely to bankrupt them, however, it prevents them from scamming some other sucker out there. - annoyed replies to AngryI received a similar call last week. When I called and asked where they were calling from, I was informed " from between your mothers legs". After this they hung up. I proceeded to send a blank sheet via fax to this number about 100 times, auto redial 3 times. If you call it now you get busy signal.
