Called to tell me I have an outstanding debt. I asked for information and she couldn't give me any and I asked for her to send it to me through the mail and she said no. I told her I had no outstanding debt then she said they were going to send the police to arrest me. I think the lady's name that was threatening me was Melanie. She sounds very uneducated and would not give me any detailed information about my "case." She hung up on me when I told her to send the police.

I got the message from my relative's former partner's sister that they got the call looking for me. It's odd because I never used their names in any information or my relative never get married legally. How can they get the information to contact them which can't contact me directly?

The worst thug debt collectors collect, buy, and/or steal data from loan applications and commercial databases. They will gather up anything useful for throwing in your face to make them appear to hold a legitimate claim. Well, make that anything except real proof you owe some old debt. Lacking a strong hand, the fiends may hassle everyone you know to create false shame and terrorize you into paying before you think to demand validation.

I guess we have another fraud shop committing extortion dressed as debt collection. Consumer debts in America, including payday loans, are a *CIVIL* matter, not criminal! The agents' horrid threats are empty and their conduct is illegal. As early as possible it's critical to determine if your collector is domestic or yet another South Asian faker. The former you can sue into submission; the latter tend to be out of reach.

My notes from October 2011 on payday loan and "hot check" collectors are linked below.
