Keep getting calls from someone named Lisa Peters, asking for verification of my social security number before she will say why she is calling.  Since I refuse to give it, she won't give me any info, but has called my job leaving this message "I have a very critical message for Genevieve and I need you to have her call me".  I might add that I have no known unpaid bills and have no knowledge of who or where this Lisa Peters is calling from.  I have filed a police report for harassment from this number, now she has started calling from 844-250-8714.  If anyone has any info on this person or where she is from, please post.

I also received a call from this number.  It was a guy claiming to be a litigator for Gateway Financial.  He also had my social security number and said that I had defrauded on a loan payment.  I have never heard of Gateway Financial.  I told the guy that he was free to send me proof and documentation or he could deal with my attorney.  He went so far as to take my attorney's information.  I believe this is a total scam.

Received a phone call from this phone number.  They call themselves Stark Law out of Westmont, Illinois.  I spoke to a "Jason Jones".  He told me that I borrowed $300 from a pay day lender in January 2015.  He told me that if I can work out a payment plan with them, then they will take away the attorneys fees and only charge me $600.00.  I told him that I need something in black and white that shows that I even borrowed from these people before I will even consider paying them back.  Of course, he couldn't produce any paperwork.  I also checked with the courts in my State to see if there is even  case against me -- there is not.  Now, I have had payday loans that I have paid back.  What I believe they do is research a database of people who have borrowed money from payday lenders and call them and threaten them.  Well, I don't feel threatened by them.  This is how I feel about that:  If you call me and tell me that I owe ABC Company money and the file was placed in your lap and you can't produce paperwork that you say they said they sent to me, and you don't have said paperwork, I'm not giving you anything.  I need to see it in black and white.  That's the long and short of it.

Just received 2 calls (one right after the other), the first to my office number (which rings to my cell phone) asking to speak to the immediate supervisor of .....(me) identifying herself as Julie Peters from a law firm regarding a legal collection matter and requested a call back from the supervisor!  Received a second call directly to my cell (which happens to be a business phone, so is also answered with company name) and call was disconnected on their end.  I have no pending collections or legal matters, and certainly nothing that would go to my employer!

Received an inter office voice mail transfer from someone calling from 844-290-0740 who stated that my employer's phone number was associated with me and that it was urgent that I return the call. When you try to call the number back no one answers.  I hate that there is such a slack in the law that calls like this cannot be stopped. It is embarrassing especially when they leave a voice message on a coworker's phone. I don't understand what they are trying to accomplish if you call them and there is no one to answer.

Have received numerous calls from a Kimberly Smith at 844-290-0740 regarding "two serious matters". They have called relatives and co-workers saying the same info. I do not owe anyone money. They say "they will activley seek him at his place of employment and residence". BS! We've questioned the valididty before when they called, and they hung up on us numerous times. About ready to contact the police to file harrassment charges!

I got a call from the same number saying the same thing and when I asked for it in writing the lady got rude with me and hung up on me. I've never heard of gateway financial either. The only loans I have are student and they were talking about a pay day advance That I know I don't have...

Received call from this number Cleo, callback person answered did not know who she was, indicated Stark Law, however refused to give Company Address, or any other information, I Advised her after her continuing to ask for information about me etc.. I was contacting my local police department.  She indicated there are alot of wrong complaints about this number, I again asked for address of company she stated that is confidential I immediately hung up..

Today I received a telephone call at work from a guy named "Benjamin Rodriguez" from Stark Law Firm talking about my being delinquent on an apparent $300 payday loan advance from a company called Titan Loans that I apparently took out on December 8, 2014. I kept insisting that I do not know what he is talking about and to provide additional information. The first thing that threw me for a loop was the fact that he just outright accused me of not honoring the provisions of my "payday loan agreement" and even asked me if I ever intended to defraud the payday loan company. I answered "no" and I kept insisting that I need to know the information so that I can resolve the issue accordingly because I have taken out payday loans online and they never just go to litigation without attempting to contact you. I also checked my email and bank account information and sure enough I truly never received anything from this Titan Loans company. I even attempted to speak with said attorney to get to the bottom of this. He said that the attorney does not want to speak with me as I am currently in litigation. I had my younger sister look into the matter after I convinced Ben that I need to call him back. Sure enough, my sister said this was very suspect and advised me to contact Ben and let him know that what he was doing was against the Fair Debt Collecting Practices Act. I didn't get Ben back; however, I did get a "Lorena Harris" to explain what was going on. While she was much more polite, she also kept insisting that I am delinquent on a payday loan advance from a company that I never took out said payday loan. I let her know in no uncertain terms that with all of the scams going on right now, I am extremely leery about just paying up debt amounts to individuals who I may have never spoken to. I have taken out payday loans before and only once I was truly delinquent; needless to say I was able to resolve that issue without some random debt collector contacting me threatening escalating the situation.  I am definitely going to report them to the attorney general's office in the state that I live in. I don't think I should even further entertain the antics of this "firm". Can anyone else provide some form of advice?

Demand written proof of this "debt" that is mailed to you.  He then has five days to comply.  Do not let him scare you.  That is the official notification as per the FDCPA.  Otherwise, do not give her any information or money. File a complaint with your state attorney general too.

The "attorney" would not speak to you??  Did you know it is illegal to claim that if you are not (and I do not believe they are).  It is also illegal to make threats!

How do I stop the phone calls?  They've called my job and now my parents saying I owe money which I have paid

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.

Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time,date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Thank you; it turns out that this Ben Rodriguez attempted to contact me through my mother's cell phone number last week Tuesday and Wednesday while she was out of the country for the funeral of a recently deceased relative. I was helping her figure out how to access her voicemails on a new cell phone she purchased. I saw he made two attempts to reach me through her cell phone. I definitely do not have any intention of just handing over money for a payday loan I never took out especially a $300 loan with a Titan Loan Services. Thankfully, I have not received any additional telephone calls since last Tuesday's episode. However, now I am really nervous because this person seemed hell bent on obtaining money from me one way or the other.
