I have been called by "Stark Recovery" saying that I have a loan from 2013 they are trying to collect on and I need to pay it now.  They are callin my mother and my work now!  I told them they had to provide me with proof of my signature and documents and they basically said they could only provide me with what they had.  Very rude and short and hang up on you.  I spoke to a Teresa today.  Said they are collecting for a company called Greenway Holding Group.

I had the exact same call but mine was up to 2510.00 but if I paid the same day they called it would only be 510.00.  Now they are calling my boss at work and my mom.  They can't seem to provide me with any documentation either.

No debt validation, no debt. It's that simple. If they call again, let them know you will be turning them over to the FTC and your state's AG if they persist with their lies and bullying.

How can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:

The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.

The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.

The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.

The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.

Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
    The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.

Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
    Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
    Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.

Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.

Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).

I received a call from a woman stating that I defaulted on a pay day loan in the amount of $400, I asked her when was that loan taken out she told me 2013, I told her I don't recall that she also stated that the company is about to take legal actions in court and and I will have to pay back $2700. I told her that I'll be in contact with her the next. She also wanted me to secure a payment arrangement with a bank card. The phone number that they called me from was 1866 716-4494. I decided to call back later on to get the name of the company. After getting the name I deceided to look them up then I saw all the posting about this company the are criminals. Thanks to all who posted and alerted us.

People-just stop and use some common sense. NO collection agency does this-EVER!  A legit agency will contact you by mail-not phone. They can't threaten you, tell you that you'll lose your house, call friends or neighbors, can't call your place of employment, nothing. They work on fear. I block their numbers -you can do it w/ Verizon and possibly your phone company. If you're not sure, then go to your police dept, contact BBB,don't answer unknown numbers, don't call back, google their number or agency name, etc. I just received a call-put my fax machine on in case they called again. Nothing like a good blast in the ear. Don't have a fax machine-buy a whistle. But,folks-more than anything-DO NOT give them any info! Even if they have your SS #-this is not the way legit companies work. If worse comes to worse-contact your bank and the 3 credit bureaus. Believe me,they are more than willing to help. Again-they thrive on scaring you-don't let them. If you ever had a payday loan(which seems to be a common thread here)-call or get in touch w/payday and let them know what's going on. I really hope this helps.

I received a call about paying back a loan that i was unsure and i fell for it and immediately canceled my card and the last payment getting refund after further research. They called back again on this pay period for me asking why the payment didn't go through and after having some ammo to ask what was going on she kept trying to talk over me. This is definitely a scam, please do not fall for this like i did. They go by Twin Bluffs Financial and Stark recovery. The lady that has called me the two times i have answered is Savanna Brown. She'll threaten you with legal action,  I have yet to receive such action after not having my last payment go through.

Got a text message claiming to be amazon messaging, but was some other phone number that actually texted me and then listed 844-514-5278 as the number to call in case I did not make the purchase. Pretty lazy actually for a scam, but they just cast a wide net
