Someone named Teresa Lewis left voicemail ordering me to call this number immediately. She said if I didn't my HR department would be notified. Called back to her number, and it rang and hung up. Smelled like a fishy scam. I blocked that number.

Just got a call from this # and  a Theresa Lewis left me a message to contact her with my current address and Phone #, and if after the 3rd try she couldn't get a hold of me she would contact my HR Department. When I looked at my phone the # 619-610-5689 appeared on to hear the voicemail  and then voicemail said to call  844-548-0900, so it's SUPER fishy.

Para legals are not lawyers.  They don't "serve" people.  They must legally be supervised by a licensed attorney.  This is nothing more than a debt collection/process server scam.

Whenever someone tells you that they are a "lawyer" or that they work for a lawyer or law firm, the first question you should ask is what state(s) they are registered in and their BAR number for that/those state(s).  Then go to that state and check them out, contact them directly using the information in the state registration, as these crooks have been known to research real law firm names and attorney names and impersonate them.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I got the same call today Teresa Lewis demanding me to call back or they will call  Hr. they call from one number and ask you to call a different number which is 844-548-0900. Total scam!!  Why would the [***] need for you to call back with your info if she already has it on file to contact your HR.. By you calling back there just trying to get you to give them your info. so they can use it. All so to verify that it is a good working number for you...

Well, no, they're trying to get you to call them back so they can attempt to scam you. They'll tell you they have papers to serve you, either at home or at work, but hey! If you pay them, they'll stop the process server from coming out. Except real process servers don't call in advance and you can't pay your way out of being served. Just block and ignore theire calls. You might also let your HR director know about this scam, just in case they get the call.

That’s pretty funny because I don’t work for anyone with an HR department. Jokes on them. These people need to be arrested for scamming.

I received a call from 844-548-0900 . Also Theresa Lewis. It’s actually a real debt collector. I noticed on the message she left that she never used my or anyone else’s name, so when I called all I would give was my phone number. She replied with the name of the person that previously had my number. For the last 10 years I have been getting collection calls for this dead beat.

I called the 844 number back. It’s a true debt collector. Theresa Lewis is a paralegal. I refused to give her my name only my phone and she came up with the name of the previous owner of my number. I have been getting  collection calls for him for years!

    Tired of this
Also got a call from a Theresa Lewis and directed to call the 844-548-0900 or they would call my HR dept. They are either really good or it was an actual law office. I did give them part of my name. They looked it up and said I listed as an alternate contact for from someone named Renalto (I forget the last name). Never heard of them. They said they would remove my name from the case file.
I have no idea what to think but am going with scam, though it's a good one.
