these numnuts actually called a family member of mine and told her the same line of crap, that I was going to be arrested etc., I actually did take out a payday loan and paid it back on time, so once they realized that emailing me was not going to work, they started calling.  THIS IS A SCAM DO NOT EVEN TALK TO THEM

I keep getting calls from this number saying I took out a "cash" loan on line back in 2012.  When i ask them for more specific information they are very vague, but they threatened to press criminal charges for theft, because I took out this loan and never repaid it.  I never took out a loan on line!  They gave an old address, my old employer from 7 years ago and a bank account that we had in minnesota!  That was over 8 years ago and on top of that they had my ex husband listed as a reference. I WOULD NEVER USE MY EX AS A REFERENCE! I have spoken with several different people and they ARE ALL FOREIGN.

Again with the "report them to the BBB” a toothless organization with no law enforcement powers that exists solely to charge business owners money for good ratings.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
