- CWG40ID themselves as GME and Associates. Appears to be just another
run-of-the-mill debt scamming group.

Their blurb says:
“We are a full service accounts receivable management company specializing in mediation and arbitration, and past due accounts with recovery solutions nationally”.
Which is a load of hogwash. The terms “mediation and arbitration” are just scammer
double talk for debt collector. And it's hard to see how a New Jersey
based debt collector can operate "nationally". Just another Buffalo Bully which
happens to be located in Red Bank New Jersey.

- CWG40 replies to TarahScammer double-talk. No such thing as a "pre-legal" action. Just
more mumbo-jumbo legalese being used to try to scare money out of you.
Ignore and block the calls. If they have a valid debt against you,
demand a debt validation letter be sent you by US mail. E-mail no
good. Of course they won't do this, so just block and ignore them. - Dot| 1 replyThey were rude and ask me yo verify my social for a pre-legal case because my social was flagged in their system and when I asked what the issue was regarding, they refuse to say kept pushing for me to verify my last 4 digits of social, when I refused she got rude and said she is not wasting time when she can help someone else and hung up. Supervisor was even more unprofessional and rude. In the day of identity theft you think anyone would give you proprietary information and have no idea who you are what company or business you are calling for, put in the mail which is also required by law.

- Slim replies to JesseA phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:
Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]
Source:
https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via Green Dot, MoneyGram, Western Union, prepaid gift card or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.
IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

Please reply to this post, to let us know you read it, or have taken suitable actions to protect yourself. - Why say it's a scam? replies to JesseBecause it is. If you're so sure it's not, please provide us with the legal business name and mailing address of this company. It's right there on the paperwork they mailed to you when they "proved to you your debt".

- Marie| 1 replyReceived a call from this company saying they were pre-legal and there was 2 ways to handle this debt, one to pay them now, or 2, have it go to court. Once i told them that i check my credit report regularly and this bank i supposedly had debt with has never been on there, and that i will choose option 2 and bring me to court. They shut up really quick, i then told them to stop calling me and hung up. I really hope that people don't fall for this. I do wonder how they got the last 4 of my SS #, and why they used a last name i havent had since 2011.

- Dustin replies to MarieWondering the same thing they got my wife used her maiden name we've been married 3 years and called my phone not hers. Let me know if you figure out how they know the last 4 of your social please
- Zane BellI received a call from this number today and they tried to tell me I owed a debt from a pay day loan and they had my name and last four of my social. When I asked them what city this debt comes from they couldn't give me an answer. They told me I have 48 hours to pay up or I'll be summoned to court. I wanna call them back and mess with them a little and ask them why I've never received anything about this til now? Why no letters in the mail?

- CherylThey called my fiancé the other day about a debt he had over 10 years ago with TD bank north (he actually had this debt, and never paid it - it's now off his credit reports). First they left a message with a case number. They said it was for $800 and if they didn't receive a payment of $175 by the end of the business day that he would have to go to court and pay a maximum of $2600. They also said they were a currier service and couldn't verify his address which is why they had to call (we've lived in the same place for 3 years). At first he was freaked out because he really had that debt - he doesn't have a bank account but I do, he said he could pay it with my debit card and they said they couldn't take that, but asked him to ask me to borrow the money and put it on a prepaid Walmart gift card. She also said she was putting herself on the line by making the debt so small, and he HAD to pay it by the end of the day or she could really get into a lot of trouble. Once he hung up he was freaking out and it took me an hour to convince him it was a scam. He never gave them the last 4 of his social thankfully. They did call again the next day and leave a message again. I also called the number from my phone and once they realized I was fishing for info they immediately hung up on me. The woman that spoke with my fiancé was soooo nice and didn't have a foreign accent. The number they called from was (844) 726-7757

- Dave| 2 repliesI work in the debt collection industry. I have no knowledge of this particular company and there are debt collection scams out there.
The one thing that I wanted to address was the people that say "I checked my credit report and it's not on there." The absence of the account from your credit report does not prove it's a scam or not a real debt. Many legitimate debt collectors do not report to credit reporting agencies; in fact, at an industry conference, someone took a poll by show of hands in one session and about only half the room raised their hands indicating that their companies do report.
Also, there are older debts collected on that cannot be reported to credit reporting agencies because they are over 7 years old. They are still allowed to collect, and you owe the money - it just won't appear on your credit report.
You can debate whether a given company is legit or not and as I said, some out there are obviously not. But don't let checking your credit report be the final arbiter for deciding that they are a scammer. - Actually.. replies to DaveThe threats given to posters by this company marks it as a scam. Also, if they are legitimate, they will MAIL the mandatory dunning letter showing that they have the legal right to collect said alleged debt.
