Claims to be from ERG a debt collector. Once you ask for their address they hang up. A scam. Watch out

'legit'? A Post office box for an address? Western New York State? I'll leave this one to the rest of the crew. Remember folks: A debt collector by law MUST send you a proof-of-debt letter with their name, address (street that is) and phone number - plus - who the debt was originally with, and for how much. Make sure they are licensed in your State to legally collect debt, & make sure the debt can legally be collected.

There is no BBB page, probably because they have only been stealing money since June of last year.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
