Called a family member claiming to be a lawyers office saying there's an open investigation and that if I don't contact them asap then I have to deal with it on my own. I called the number back using the ext. They gave and got a voice recording. Not sure who they are but they gave my family member a case number.

received the same call, however, who they were asking for doesn't have a bank account in which they said the case number was about.

With more research, the number they are calling from is a scam where they are trying to collect personal information.  Do not respond and report the number!

I had a voice mail from this number when I got home from work. The gentleman had a southern accent and stated they had tried to deliver a court summons to an address I haven't lived at for 25 years and I needed to call them back or risk a warrant being issued. I called the number back and it went to voice mail. Interested to see if I get another call.

Please help I got the same voice mail on Friday about trying to serve papers at an address I have not lived at for over ten years and if I was not there to sign today for them a bench warrant would be issued. I'm not sure if I should call and it scares me. I've never had problems. Any info would help

Do not call them back. I work at a lending company and the police just called us because these people used our name to collect money a woman did not even owe. The whole setup is to get you to confirm your information and in her case get you to send money. But even if you do not send money, if you say no my social sec number is  not 111-22-3333 it is xxx-xx-xxxx then they got what they want. The actual law firm is legitimate but these people are just using their name too as the number is actually located in Ohio. If someone contacts you regarding a debt that you do not have knowledge of or threatens warrants then you need to file a complaint with the company they say they represent so it can be investigated. No true collector will threaten you as it is not legal.

This number and a lady by the name of Michelle Lewis has been calling my family (family that i don't even talk to) and giving them personal information about me. Saying they are going to file a case in court with 5 counts of check fraud from 2013. They told my husband, who i was not even married too in 2013 that he was going to have a warrant issued as well. They called my father and threatened him after he said i no longer live at that address and havent for years. So i finally called and they asked me about 6 different addresses that i have no idea where they even are never heard of them and said they can't give me any information that it's going to the courts if i don't pay now. I asked ok who do i need to pay and how much so i can send it to my attorney. Now all of a sudden "oh it's late we have to file this with the courts and you will have to deal with the judge" like really people you work for a screwed up and sad company!!

Just got off the phone with them. They have my personal information. I keep asking for more information and they can't tell me anything other than its two accounts for check fraud. I know I would never do that. Saying that I can settle out of court or charges will be filed. I called the place they say they were calling about and they told me not to answer because it sounds like fraud. Keep calling and harassing me though.

Same here they said i had 5 all together but she only had 2 on her desk. i even asked how much i owed so i could tell my attorney and she said your attorney can't help you. then she transferred me to a supervisor who said have your attorney call us then hung up. and she got super affended when my dad told them to F**k off but they said they were going to issue a warrant for him like really haha

I received a call from the local courthouse who left a message saying to call this number. I looked up the courthouse number and it was from the county clerk but I'm going to call them tomorrow because they should have info it's a judgement against me.

It's a scam. The number has been spoofed. Ignore and block the calls.

I called the courthouse and was informed that they did not call about a complaint. They only handle marriage license, etc and they that did not call or have anyone in the office by that name. I had to call and have my credit card cancelled. So upset with myself because I believed them since the number came from the actual county clerk office.

Did they say they were Eric from the Court house? I just got a call, he said he had warrant papers to serve me from Law Firm of Rothstein, Covitz & Abelman and had an address I didn't verify. I kept asking him what it was about and he said he didn't know it's a sealed document he needs me to sign. I said you said it was an arrest warrant, he stuttered and kept asking when I'd be home. I told him to let me call my lawyer on this and can I call him back at the number he called from. He hung up

This is a common ploy by criminals masquerading as debt collectors who are attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this,  all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  One of the tricks they use is to call your work place, friends, or relatives repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying.  They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number

BBB has received complaints about continuous debt collection calls coming from a company calling itself "Rothstein, Covitz, and Abelman". Rothstein, Covitz, and Abelman is requesting payment for delinquent accounts and uses threats of arrest and criminal charges if the debt isn't paid. Complaints state Rothstein, Covitz, and Abelman threatens legal action and, in many cases, tells consumers law enforcement has been dispatched to the consumer's home or place of employment. Consumers state they request to be removed from their call list; but the company hangs up and/or continues to call.

BBB has not been able to locate a registration with the Ohio Secretary of State for "Rothstein, Covitz, and Abelman." The address provided for the company is a residential home and the mail has been returned.

Follow these helpful tips when dealing with questionable debt collectors:

-- Request written notice of the amount of money you owe and the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money;
-- Request the debt collection license number or attorney's name; and
-- File a complaint with BBB, the Federal Trade Commission, and your Attorney General's office if you have experienced calls like this.
