The debt was probably purchased by a bottom feeding debt collector for a few cents on the dollar.  Demand written proff thst you actually do owe them and have it mailed to you.  That is the only legal way to notify you.  Faxes, phone calls & emails are NOT official notification.

If they gave your dad any information, that is also illegal (third party).

Just received call & voicemail message from these scumbags on my cell#... CALLER ID came up as "UNLISTED" ...
[I DO NOT ANSWER CALLS that come up as "UNKNOWN" or that are NOT IN MY CALLING LIST.]

Message was from a female (supposedly names "Shonda")  who had a heavy accent, talked very fast and was very hard to understand... supposedly calling from my LOCAL COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE stating I have 24 hours to call them back about some kind of outstanding debt that need to be settled or they will come to my residence or place of work, "arrest and "serve me with papers".... gave a (bogus) case number that does not correspond with our county's judicial numbering system and was to ask for "officer James (NO last name)...
