Constantly calls about a debt I owe. I have no outstanding debt and am sick of being scammed.

These people have been calling me for the past couple of months I called them back and let them know that I filed for bankruptcy and they just say fine we will close it out does that sound like they want information about my bankruptcy or is this a scam

They have called my son and friends wanting to locate me, they finally got a hold of me and when I did not want to disclose my personal information with them, my DOB, address etc. they threatened me with legal action and hung up. They didn't want to tell me any information about why they are calling until I give them my personal information. I don't know why would someone would want to sue me!

No one is going to sue you.  This is an extortion attempt.

One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them so that they can scare that person into paying extortion money.  They will usually also state information that would be illegal for a real debt collector to state to a third party such as that you are being sued, that you owe money to someone, etc. They threaten that if you do not call them back, they will contact your HR department and tell them that you are a deadbeat who does not pay their bills.  They often call people that have never even been associated with you because they get erroneous information off the internet.

The fake process server extortion attempt usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

These scammers are calling my phone and my parents home.  I know at the beginning of the call it’s fake because they use my maiden name and I only have 1 debt owed under that name, that is being paid.  I wish there was some way to make them stop.  And they call from several numbers but leave this number to call back 844-922-1433.

Called and asked to speak with their legal department, because after I already called and told them I am not paying any money and that the original company they claim I owe sent me a letter to prove I never owed a debt to them or got a loan through their company and that company stated this one is a scam, they continue to call me. The person answered the phone and claimed to be “the manager on the floor” and we got into a heated exchange of words. It was comical really his words (omitting the cussing) were Im a broke ghetto b* that can’t pay her bills and he don’t give a f* what the original company said. We argued for 10 minutes doing nothing but insulting each other and I ended the call with If I am contacted again the ghetto will go legal QUICK. He responded b* don’t worry I’ll never call your ghetto a* again. BIG SCAM .!

called me a few months ago and like others have stated, wouldn't provide any real information about the debt, got real nasty and calling me names and that I don't know the law. I told her they need to do a better job of screening their scam calls because if they even looked at the line of work I'm in they wouldn't have called me. She laughed and started calling me stupid and dumb so I started spewing information too fast for her to handle, at this point she's cussing me out trying to talk over me (all the while I kept talking) then finally told me it's going to be my financial ruin not hers. I said wonderful I know where I am, now stop calling.  Today I got another call (didn't answer) but then my mother got a call and a voicemail (same as all the rest of you got, though I never got a voicemail).  She forwarded it to me and sure enough, same company.  Total scam, they cannot sue, and it's illegal to call a third party and leave a voicemail noting any kind of debt or collections.  Even if you have questions, check your state's statute of limitations on debt collection.  See BigA's response above.  Low life thieves!

They will lie to you.
I don't know the name they are calling for, and have been on my number for the better part of decade.  They say they will remove you from the list, good since they are 100% wrong in who they are calling, but will continue leaving threatening voicemails.
All these idle threats an no action.  Do it, punks, snitch to that guy's family and job instead of threatening me about it.

They call constantly and from different numbers and different city and states but with the same call back number.  They have also started calling my elderly mother’s home phone.  I am not sure how they got her number but it is irritating because it just stresses her out for no reason.  I really hate scammers!!!!!

I received this message just today, for someone completely different.

Keep getting calls from Georgia and claim they are from LCS. State they are giving me a courtesy call because I will be served papers at home or work. I know I don't have an unpaid debt. They say to call 844-922-1433. Not gonna happen. Getting real sick of the calls. Would block but it's a different number every time.

Today , someone call me many times from LCS  State of Georgia they leave a voice mail  on my  phone but I din't call them back I have a feeling this is a big scam ! our  experience here in comments section are all the same , All people who received a call like this number 844-922-1433 and 706-920-2285 these is scammer number  , don't give any personal information to them . hang up the phone . I want to report this scammer to our federal agency , but how?

Me too. The caller is not even calling for ME. But same message.

I got this same voicemail this morning and I thought it was a scam  as well

This number is on multiple sites that warn against Scammers!!

This number keeps calling me. All bogus. They need to be stopped!

This is excellent information! These scammers pop up and start calling me, my husband, parents, siblings, aunts/uncles, cousins…it gets so embarrassing to explain this is not a real matter and not to give out my information. These people are soulless and will harass anyone.
