    Fake debt collectors-Watch out!!

I received calls from this number with a machine trying to pronounce my name.  They even have started mailing me debt collection letters but I don't owe anything.  I have a feeling they stole my identity when I got a computer virus, or when I reported my card stolen on my cell.  I called the credit card company but I have no balance.  I will go to a lawyer if need be.

I will need to change  my phone number.

I Got a call from thies Jokers did not take the call. The number on my caller ID was 847-257-8333. Now I see the last 4 is also is 8326. I went though an Identity theft. After spending allot of money with a lawyer. And having letters sent out and letters filed with the 3 credit agencies. I had my lawyer tell me how these BOTTOM feeders make their money. They buy up default accounts for pennies on the dollar and then try to get people to pay for an account that has been charged off and have received insurance money for the defaulted account. The laws in the USA need to be changed, because if the creditor gets money from insurance that they have on all credit loans and gets that money after they file a claim on a default account they should NOT be allowed to sell of a debit account that has been paid for by an insurance company for pennies on the dollar just to make more money. IF Joe X out here doses that it’s called insurance fraud. My lawyer laid out to me how all this works. If you get harassed by these jerks turn them into the FCC and they will get hit with FINES. Next get a lawyer and follow what they tell you. Simple thing do not take calls from anyone you don’t know. If it is important they will leave a message. Call you phone company be it a land line or Cell and have them block the numbers. Some phone companies will require you to renew the block number(s) 3 to 4 months down the road. Hope this helps.

I am getting calls from after work, on the weekends and weekdays.  They sent me a dept collector letter saying I owe something from Bank of America.  I checked my account with Bank of America and credit report and don't see anything.  The man on the other end is very pushy and tries scares you.  They are criminals  and thieves phishing by getting the information from the internet and use it to harass and con people to give them money they don't even owe.

I've been dealing with these jerks for months!  They keep saying their collecting a debt for Providian, which was paid off in 2007.  I have told them this TWICE.  Now they're calling me and when I answer there's no one there.

This is a BOTTOM_FEEDER! They buy discharged debts fro pennies on the dollar and then try to collect!

    You can fight them!!

    A. Check with your consumer protection agency for the statute of limitations on credit-card debts in your state.

Statute of Limitations on Debt Collection: The statute of limitations relates to a creditors right to sue to collect money. The original creditor is mandated by federal law, to charge-off an account when no payments have been received for 180 days. That date is referred to as the ‘Date of Last Activity (DLA)’ and reported as such, to the credit reporting agencies by the creditor.

The DLA determines two critical issues: 1) It starts and stops the seven year clock on your credit files. 2) I starts and stops the statute of limitations for taking legal action in your state by ANY subsequent owner of the account.

    B. You can also buy a phone that allows you to block numbers. (Eg., Panasonic KX-TG7624 blocks up to 30 numbers and is easy to use.

I got a call from them today, they have call me many times.  I kind of like them.  The caller asked if this is me as she misprononced my name.  Then I asked her her name.  She said Linda, then asked if this is mispronouncing my name.  I again asked who she was, she told me that she was Linda, then she asked again.  I again asked who she was.  She said Linda,  I told her I could play her game all night long, but untill I get a first and last name and her SSN so we could verify she is the person she says she is, as well as the company they work for, we don't have anything further to discuss.  She hung up only to call back again.  Which I answered with a fictious company, to start over again.

Normally this works after a couple time they get tired of playing with me.

    The Dude
I got a call from this number (847-257-8333) asking for a name of someone who must have had my cell number before me (over the last 8 years I have been getting calls for this person from credit companies and collection people).  I asked who was calling and he said something like "Lewis Murdock".  I repeated the name and asked if he wanted to leave a message, then he hung up.  Shifty people.

I have grown tired over the years getting calls about this person - there have literally been at least 40-50 calls for her in the last 8 years.  Usually I just tell them I never heard of her and ask them not to call again.  Then someone else calls some months or a year later.  I don't know who this chic was/is, but she must have skipped on a bunch of debt.

They do not get money from insurance. No such thing as insuring debt. By "charging off" they count it as a los on their taxes. If you end up paying it later they have to correct/update their taxes.

I get calls from them through out the day. Since no one is home, they don't leave a message. Today they called my cell and I answered. Hello, Hello and they hang up.

I've gotten numerous calls on my cell phone, increasily the past year or so. Small bills that I KNOW have been paid and resolved, are popping up all over the place with these bogus collections. I owed US Bank money and I even had a collection agency debiting my checking in order to pay this debt. Guess what, US Bank never received payments for the debt. So, I got scammed out of $400. The scare tactics they use are horrible and I did have financial problems after my last divorce, so I do want to make good on my debts. But I have learned the hard way that you should pay the creditor directly, whether your account has been charged off or not. If they aren't willing to accept payments or payment arrangments, then they should stop selling your personal information to collection agenices-whether they are legimate or not. This 847-257-8333 has been calling my cell phone constantly, as well as other bogus agenices. Sometimes I get a voice mail from one of these companies and I call back to a recording, no actual person answers their calls. Now, they called my office phone today. I simply tell them this is a place of business and isn't that harassment?!   I didn't identify or confirm who I was, nor if what they claiming I owed was mine or not. It seems once that I tell one of these agencies that I have proof of payment, they are in a hurry to end the call. They are looking for your debit and credit card, as well as checking account numbers. Don't give any of that information to anybody, they could wipe out your entire account. So, I'm concluding that I'm involved in fraud and it's affecting my credit report, because these items that they are trying to collect on are showing up on my credit report. Make sure you are monitoring your credit report at least 1 a year or more, don't sign up for the credit monioring monthly services either. Each consumer is entitled to 1 free credit report per year from each of the 3 major credit bureaus. Don't wait until you go to buy a new car or apply for a mortgage, it takes alot of time to challenge this incorrect information on your reports and that can cost money by having higher interest rates due to your credit scores being lower from all these scam artists out there. I've learned alot of this the hard way, so if I can help anybody else out whom is struggling with the same problems, I feel good.

Yeah I owe someone money, SO WHAT, you're not going to get it.  I get calls from so many different collectors I no longer know who to trust.  So I no longer take anyones calls.  99% of the time they don't even leave a message, so I guess it isn't important. I truly believe that it is un-american not to be in debt. Thank everyone whose posted here, I can see this particular phone call is a scammer.  I'll save it to my contacts as "Wrong#6" and mark it to go directly to voicemail.
