I just received a call from these people. The caller did not say who they were on the voicemail, just that they were calling to get my location for a "lawsuit".
"This is a legal notification for _____ ______. I received an order process to conduct a full investigation to facilitate your current location whereabouts. Once you have been located, this department will pursue you at your residence and or your place of employment. An immediate response is required to avoid allegations being filed with your county. Yourself or your attorney can contact this office @ 847-258-9109. Reference directly to Case # ______. A failure to comply will result in a forfeiture of your rights as well as an admission of guilt. Good luck."
It is a scam, people in my area have been receiving the same.

Fake debt collection scam. Don't answer any numbers that you do not recognize. Just remember when you hear voicemails from these people that they are using Scare Tactics to try to get you to pay an invalid debt. Do not let your anxiety get a hold of you because what they are doing is actually illegal

Got a call asking for my sister in law followed by the same threats of legal action.  called the number to investigate and spoke to a very abrasive and unrefined woman.  She was unpolished in her speech and did not seem to have any idea what she was talking about, only wanted to use big words to sound smart and official.  She told me that she would have to end this call because she needed to speek to the individuaal and confirm identity.....blah blah blah.  I told her that she was ending the call because the whole thing is a BS scam and she knows it......she did not like it that much

Caller ID on my cell showed: 505-389-2240.  However, the recorded message said in order to respond to case no. 724502, I had to call the following number: 847-258-9109.  No one legitimately trying to perform service of process is going to tip off the intended recipient!

I received a message threatening legal action if I do not respond immediately, my phone App scam detector says this is a scam or fraud and people in my local area are being targeted. Plus all the typical signs of a scam are apparent. Good news is the Feds are starting to nail these low-life bottom feeders. The more they call the better the chances are that they are going to be busted and arrested. They think they are flying underneath the radar, but the recent arrests in the IRS scam and another scam proves otherwise.

Not so fast Sherlock. Simply applying for a payday loan online puts people at risk since some sites are designed to collect personal information for identity theft purposes. So, these scammers like you have such detailed information from the borrower – including Social Security number, place of employment, etc. that it is easier to convince someone that the debt might be legitimate. But that doesn’t mean it is. Moreover, in most states, it is a crime to threaten someone with criminal prosecution to collect a civil debt.  A fake debt collector will say anything to scare you into paying them. Some pretend to be lawyers and threaten people with lawsuits and jail time to collect debts that don’t exist. Consumers, if a debt collector threatens you with jail time or prosecution, get the person's name and/or Employee ID number, the name of the company they work for, and hang up the phone. Please know that if you are sued for a debt, you will be served with a legal notice -typically a complaint and summons which contains instructions for responding, this compared to a scam when someone calls and says that a lawsuit will be filed immediately if you don’t pay up immediately. These cons may also attempt to embarrass you or pressure your relatives into paying the debt for you; but if someone does discuss these matters with someone other than you, it is a red flag for a scam. Federal laws forbid collectors from discussing personal debts with anyone other than a co-signer or spouse. If you encounter a collector who engages in any of these tactics, take time to investigate whether the call is real and stop talking to them, period. There is no law saying you have to talk to anyone, particularly if they are using abusive tactics. If you allow yourself to be pressured and rushed into forking over money, you are likely a victim of extortion, therefore paying the crook will not end their calls since you will be added to a suckers list for the next scam, and the cycle will continue until consumers wise up or the crooks are arrested. Finally, consumers put a block on your credit and/or sign up to receive alerts any time your credit profile is checked. If you are getting these calls, you are at risk for identity theft
