Fraudulent or Zombie Debt Collectors—Things to Know

If you have received a call stating:

    1. You have defrauded a financial institution
    2. You owe an unpaid payday loan
    3. You have a warrant due to an unpaid loan
    5. You will receive a court summons
    6.  Authorities are coming to arrest you
    7.  Anything similar to above,
     a.   Do not give them any information or verify any information for them
     b.   Tell them you know they are a scam operating illegally and that you are   filing a complaint with the  appropriate authorities
    * File a complaint with the FBI on their Internet Crime webpage     http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
    * File a complaint with the Attorney General for the state you live in
The more information and complaints there are, the better the chance of getting these criminals to stop (or at least reduce the frequency).    [abstracted from another site]

I was called, on my cell, from 855-825-6024 with an unintelligible message, the only recognizable words were "...legal process...".

The first time I called back, I asked what kind of organization that this was and was immediately asked for my name. When I asked them what they were again, they hung up.

I tried one more time and was put on terminal "HOLD" ... I hung up after 7 minutes

This person has been calling frequently and is very rude.  He has called my daughter in North Carolina and also sister-in-law.
Stated he was filing charges in Baltimore County Circuit Court.  Called the court and  no such case no exists.  These people are scam artists and I have a probable cause that he is associated with a certain individual since all she knows is scams and she lives right here in Maryland.  This has got to stop.  Have been advised of these people they even had me upset when I had cancer and stated they did not care about my condition like I said very rude and relentless people.

Debt scammers.  Do not talk to them.  Ignore them.  Block their calls.  DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY OR INFORMATION.   If they have a valid debt tell them to send you a debt validation letter by US Mail.  E-mail no good.  Do not pay anyone anything.

You cannot be arrested for ordinary civil debt in the US.   Debt collectors have no power of arrest, nor do they have any influence with law enforcement.  This is a total scam by a company that used to be known as Landmark.

That's another thing these scammers do, tell you that you are going to be arrested for check fraud.  If you had written a bad check the bank would notify you NOT some scammy debt collectors.  Usually the bank will work out a settlement with the bank patron and that's the end of it.  If you are going to be arrested for check fraud, you actually have to WRITE A CHECK.  Bad check charges are dealt with by the DA and the police, not some debt collector.  These damn scammers tell you that a bad debt has somehow magically transformed itself into a bad check charge and the scammer is the first to notify you of this magical transformation.

    Total load of nonsense.

They’re using the same old bag of tricks.
    They :
    1) Try to scare people into paying debts they don't owe. They know social security numbers, driver's license numbers and old bank account numbers.
    2.  Call employers
    3.  Take advantage of these borrowers' vulnerability .  They go after women, single mothers and anybody they think is vulnerable.
    4.  Constantly threaten to “serve” you with court papers.

They are basically phonies, posing as  bill collectors  and cold calling and  accusing people of not repaying payday loans. They threaten  arrest  continually.  They tell victims that they’ll be arrested  if their victims  don't immediately make a payment or provide bank account or credit card numbers.
Sometimes the pretend to be lawyers or members of law  firms or fake government agencies telling them they owe money to a payday loan company and threatening them with legal action.
Ignore them if they call you.
    Report them.

Micheal Barnett called me and said that my son Jose who works for ____ and his social security number is _____ which I do not know where he got his social security number, maybe his employers gave it to him. Well anyway he said that the authorities were going to be knocking on our door for him, I was so upset and told him that I would like for him to send the authorities to our house I  would love to tell them what is going on. He said that my son was doing check fraud, my son has never wrote a check in his life, he uses his debit bank card, and we went to his financial institution who also said that it is a scam.

Moreover, bad checks are dealt with by a Federal Agency, not even the county DA. They are full of it. They called my sister and had my mother freaking out things I was going to jail. "Why would they say 'fraud.'" I tried my best to put her at ease. I wasn't worried in the least. I'm glad I found this site to confirm what I was already thinking.
