Never have I had to give my SSN over the phone to my hospital, which is a part of Cadence Health. They always ask for my birthdate. Occasionally my address, but never my full social.

For those of you saying this is a legit company and a debt collector your wrong. You would get a bill in the mail many times before a debt collector would start calling you first off. Secondly they call me all the time d I only go to one hospital and pay ALL my fees and lab work upfront so I know it's not for that. Scam.

On this caller's voicemail, she claims to be "calling on behalf of Northwestern Medicine"... and to please return the call. However, Northwestern Medicine has its own financial department, billing department, etc.  I didn't call her back and I've now blocked the phone number. All of my doctors from NW Medicine have their own internal departments with a staff that will call me.
NEVER give any personal information to someone who calls you from this phone number!

Received a call tonight (at 7:35) from a 877-908-5138. Didn't answer and they left a message. A recorded female voice stated that said they were calling regarding "a personal business" matter and to call them at 855-286-2860, and that their hours are 8 to 5 (no times zone given). When I dialed the first number it went to a place called "The Business Office" and a recording said they were closed. When I called the second number, it went to Cadence/Northwestern Medicine, and a recording said they were closed. So, it appears spoofers are using these two numbers in some way. We have never heard of Cadence or Northwestern Medicine or The Business Office.

Called me TWICE today.  Both times phone rang & stopped after 1 ring, like they don't really expect me to answer.  I couldn't if I WANTED to, they cut off so fast.  After reading comments they are now blocked.

Claimed to be calling on behalf of  Northwestern medicine. I do have accounts there but all are current and in good standing. This appears to be a dangerous scam. They called and left an apparently recorded message of a woman asking for a call back. No reason given. This does not match the hospital's calling procedure. If you get a call from this number do not respond. Contact the institution directly though their normal number.

A frequent flier at Northwestern Medical
This is a billing company hired to collect on accounts with Northwestern Healthcare in northern Illinois.  Cadence Health is the former name of the hospital that is now Northwestern in Winfield, IL.  Be careful ignoring them if you actually use physicians associated with Northwestern, people from this office had several of my specialist appointments cancelled when I had to go on the healthcare.gov insurance.  They claimed I needed to make a $500 deposit for any appointment I wanted to schedule because they did not take my BCBS Blue Choice PPO plan.  Because they are out of network with that plan, they can do whatever they want with appointment policies.  Personally I think it's criminal. My out of network insurance would've paid 70% of the charges, but they were treating me as if I had no insurance at all.  I spoke to my PCP about this process and the providers have no way to get involved to make exceptions.  My PCP even linked me with a social worker to try to work with the billing office on my behalf, and their own social worker even said they couldn't do anything about it.

For those saying that their asking for info is criminal or a HIPAA violation, it's not.  HIPAA privacy is about how healthcare providers use your info for scheduling, providing, and paying for services.  They absolutely want to verify your ID before discussing a medical bill.  But that doesn't mean that you have to supply the information.

HIPAA if it applies here which I doubt requires medical facilities, doctors, and associated services to protect your information such as diagnosis, treatment, etc.  They are legally allowed to release as much information as necessary to get paid for their services.  HIPAA does not apply to you giving out information.  If it did you would never be able to discuss anything with your doctor or hospital and would either be untreatable or might end up getting the wrong treatment.  HIPAA also requires them to know who they are talking to before releasing information.  Most places simply require your name and birth date.  Nothing nefarious about that.
