- Wade Wilson| 11 repliesIf you get a call from a number you don't recognize, they threaten to have you served, and they tell you to call 855-315-7385 to stop the process, it is a scam. Don't fall for their bull, don't pay them a dime.

- Brian Ingrum| 4 repliesCalled me and told me that I had a check that I had at a cash checking place that never was paid. Told me that it is $5,300 now. They got my card information along with the info they already had like my social security number my address. Fortunately I looked them up and seen where other callers had reported them as a scam and went and stopped and cancelled my debit card. They called me today to ask why my payment wasn't there and I confronted them on the matter. They never missed a beat and said that would be a policeman coming to serve me papers on a Saturday. They were able she said to take a $1,300 payment instead of the $5,300 payment that was added with the legal fees. I told her that she would have to answer for what she is doing but she still maintain her role play. Now I'm waiting to see what happens. I will update any info on this

- BigA replies to Brian Ingrum| 2 repliesThis is an extortion attempt, nothing more, nothing less. This is certainly not how the court system works, nor is it how real debt collection is supposed to work.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: https://800notes.com/faq/attorney-general - BigA replies to Brian IngrumPlease read my other post. Every state has bad check laws that can easily be accessed online. No bad check would ever cost you over $5,000. Never, ever let anyone scare you into paying them. That is called extortion.
- Wade Wilson replies to Brian IngrumI've been working with the NY State Attorney General's office. These guys have tried this scam with a multitude of numbers and company names. Its gotten to the point that they have the AG number blocked.
- DocintheboxGot a call from a Tammy Brooks from the Liaisons office saying that I was being served between 2 and 4 tomorrow (which is a Saturday) if I or my attorney didn't call back to this number 8553157385 and confirm service details. She would hold it off until Tuesday, because she had no idea what it was for, so she assumed I didnt either. She had my cell number and the last four of my social. If you can't leave me a message detailing everything, and threaten me with being served, but don't know where I am, and expect me to call you back, you got another thing coming. If it's about a check like others have posted here- I haven't owned checks for 15 years. It's gotta be a scam. I work with cops, they all said no one ever schedules and/or tells you when you're being served. They will find you and serve you. And the number was blocked on my phone where she was calling me from, so that's a red flag too. We'll see if I get served...

- DarleneSame call stating they sent me papers a month ago via mail, never received anything. Called back the number above after a threatening call to confront them. Could only leave a message. State I am being served Monday. Wouldn't something like this be on a credit report. I had just had mine pulled and no derogatory credit is on it.

- Linda replies to BigA| 1 replyI gota similar call - asked for their address - they gave me a bogus address: 2265 George Urban Blvd., Depew, NY 14043. Check out this so-called company location and have a laugh: https://www.google.com/maps/place/2265+George ... 6!4d-78.7278257 Definitely not a legitimate company. I ignored the call and nothing happened to me.

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question. As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes. The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question. Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else. So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you. Let the FTC sort it out.
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them. Tell 'em no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking). the only thing they understand. - post pending moderator approval
- Jess replies to Heidi| 3 repliesI just got a call from this number telling me that I'm going to be served on Monday because I never responded to a letter sent a month ago which i never got. Same thing saying i owed a cash place from 2009. Saying that if I don't pay 1700. That I will be facing court fees of 5300 . His call stated they had been retained as legal to pursue in court then i asked if he was a lawyer and he said he was legal aide. Now he stated he will give me until Monday to call him back to pay the 1700 to settle out of court but I'm being served on Monday I replied. He stated he will wait for my call back on Monday. Has anyone been served? Is this real? I never heard of them.
- BigA replies to Jess| 2 repliesThat question has already been answered in this thread. At least twice. Try reading the other posts thoroughly this time and use the information, as well as the provided links to both federal and state agencies to become educated. Or you will be putting "victim of a crime" behind your name.
