1-855-317-9222 - Indiana replies to Anonymus| 2 repliesSO did you ever call them back
- Gunnar replies to Indiana| 1 replyI would certainly hope not! Why would anyone call back a known bunch of SCAMMERS?
Legitimate debt collection companies, collecting legitimate debts, make themselves known by mail. They do NOT first appear with a 'phone call. When a supposed debt collector calls, DEMAND a notice of validation BY MAIL. As per federal regulation under the FDCPA. When/If that collector starts to make excuses and/or threats, case closed. That collector is a fraud or scammer attempting to collect an invalid or bogus debt.
Understanding your rights as a consumer & then knowing how scammers, frauds & junk debt buyers (all the same things really) think make protecting yourself quite simple.
Be Safe. Be aware.
Gunnar - Lynda replies to AnnoyedI got the same exact message. Although the caller ID was from 503-912-5051. That same caller ID called a few weeks ago, threatening to forward the 'claim' to their local liaison since I had not returned their calls. The call back number for that was different. This must be the 'local' person, lol. I never answer these calls, they are always a scam. I've been getting all varieties for years and have no idea how to make them stop. I've reported dozens to the state and federal regulators. They just change their names and numbers and start over. I feel for people who don't know this is a scam.
- LyndaSame people are back, with a different number showing up on caller ID, 716-276-3932. Otherwise, same recording, same spiel, and same call back to 855-317-9222. Last time they called they said it was their "last attempt" to contact me. If only!

- Amber| 3 repliesI got a call from them from a local number. I answered because I'm selling things on CL. When I answered, the message was prerecorded and it gave the 855 number as a return call. I called the original number back and when I wouldn't verify my social, they hung up on me. So I called the 855 number and the guy said it was for a debt that I actually do have, but he told me there's no real way for me to know if I'm being scammed or not. He said that my account was sent to the local office so they can do an employment check but I don't have a job. He said if the employment check came back as I'm unemployed they'd have to reevaluate my case and see if it's worth pursuing. He also said there'd be check protest and that it could affect my current in banking. He said he was the Director of Operations and that they had sent me a letter trying to settle my supposed $650 debt for $250 but it had to be in one lump sum and had to be done before the employment verification was done or else I wouldn't be able to accept their offer. I'm convinced it's a scam. They said the company name is ARG but I can only find the one in New York, and I live in the midwest. Hope this helps others.

- CWG40 replies to Kim mcmillanGo down to your local main civil court and check the defendants civil list. The clerks are usually glad to help and are familiar with these kinds of scams. Chances are very good no case has been filed against you. This is an attempt to scare money out of you. Don't fall for it. If you were involved in a civil law suit you'd have received something in the mail from the attorney for the other party. You would NOT first hear about it from some scammery scummery debt collector.
Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking), the only thing they understand. - CWG40 replies to AmberTotal scam. If you had written a bad check (I assume that's supposedly what's involved) you would have received a notice from the bank. YOu would NOT have first heard about it from some scammery scummery debt collector. Just an attempt to scare money out of you. Ignore and block the calls.
- CWG40 replies to Carrie PTotal scam. Being in ordinary civil debt is NOT a crime and you cannot be prosecuted for it. In any event, debt collectors have nothing to do with the criminal justice system.
- CWG40 replies to concerned| 1 replyYes, it's a scam. No debt collector can sieze anyone's assets. It takes a court order to do that.
