Called stated my name and a case number said they were coming to my address at a time to serve me legal documents. Said to call 8557503355

Same as above ..stated name was coming to my address to serve me papers..said to call certain number..who are they ..don’t identify themselves

Received voicemail from another phone number with a different area code telling me to call 855-750-3358. Voice mail stated they were looking for name, stating they will call my supervisor and can come look for me at home or work. I informed my supervisor and they stated no one had even contacted them. Was also given a case # but they do not identify where they are calling from. I think it's a scam. I know my rights. The original number traced back to some tax building in a city that I have never lived in before.

Total scam,  same story. I was told I was being looked for and to obtain legal counsel for an upcoming trial. BS

Same thing. They called left a voicemail saying that I was to be served. I called the number that they had left back and gave the case number that was in the voicemail. The man was very unprofessional and argumentative. He listed the last four of my social and my birthday to me. After telling me that I must "be the type to avoid responsibility and have this stuff happen all the time" he put me on hold to 'pull more information' and came back saying that the case was about a supposed bad debt from 2007 for a company that has well since gone under. I'm afraid now that they have so much of my information and it's all a scam. I don't know what route to take to protect myself now.

Person named James called and left a message telling me he had legal documents took serve and left a case number and telephone number (888.824.0311) to call back. Second time calling. Left no other identifying information.

Same thing just happened to me. Asked for me as my last name from 30 yrs ago told them don’t know who that is. She hung up called home # same message

Monday someone called me saying that I owed money for something that was paid long ago now I got a phone call yesterday saying that I need to be served papers and that she was a complete  officer left me a voicemail with a case number and a number to call when she called it was underneath a blocked number.

There'll be an order location issued for you requiring a signature on your behalf since I was unable to reach you by phone, I was instructed to contact your employers. It looks like it be a possible place location due to the negligence on your own regarding this case.  you do have the legal right to contact the office that is processing your claim, once your claim is officially filed, other options are forfeited, The number provided on the paperwork to contact them. Is 855-750-3236. Once your claim was officially filed, other options are gonna be forfeited. You're being notified by telephone. Is the last resort and attempt to make contact you prior to processing your paperwork. Thank you

Sounds like the fake process server scam. Real process servers don't call in advance.

These people called my mother in law, my personal business, and our son, saying they were hunting my husband down, to call them back at the above number and give his case number, and if not they would hunt him down and show up in person. So I called my attorney, this is highly illegal and considered harassment. So I called the number above back, got a voicemail and asked for who to send a cease a desist to in their company. We shall see if they respond. Essentially I think it is a scam and am choosing to throw their own game in their face. I don't know what they are after but we had the exact same thing as everyone else has written they just took it further and called all our relatives. They threaten to tell his Supervisor, and he is retired.

Well done, that is word for word what we got, except they called my husband, his mom, and our oldest son, and then they called my company. I called back asking where I can have them served at, and we shall see if they still call, lol.

Almost identical message but in reference to a family member. She stated I am “part of a contact” for the relative. I’m guessing scam for some sort of bill collector. The phone number left in the message was completely different than the caller’s and verbiage lacked professionalism.

My number was called from an unknown number. The person left me a voicemail and said her name was Amber Wilson and she was a state investigator. She said a complaint had been named against me and if I wanted details I could call 855-750-3366. She knew my full name and the 4 digits of my ssn. It sounds pretty suspicious.

The fake process server/location finder extortion SCAM usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency. They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer). They threaten to serve you at home or at work. They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work. They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID. None of which is true. Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them. Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else. They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”. Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time. Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter, email, or text (postmarked in the case of a letter) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. Unless they have communicated it to you verbally at the beginning of your conversation. It also must contain the “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this communication must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that communication you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
