- KGeorgia| 2 repliesThey called me too...very, very rude and disrespectful! I want to know if this is legal and can a law suit be filed against them?
- Caller: Mulholland Group ???
- Call type: Debt collector
- hlaw replies to KGeorgia| 1 replyI finally decided to talk to them today after they called everyone on my family tree. They were very rude and wanted my address to serve me. I told them if they were legit they should know that. They have also called my parents on different days looking for other family members. I guess they are trying to scam the whole family!! Their website says under construction. Block their numbrrs and report it to the FCC.

- TaylorMade replies to Paul S.Yea, they called me talking bout they served a warrant 9 days ago......ok it dont take that long to serve a warrant, they he was like we will garnish, wages and seize property for $82.12 from Starbucks from 12 years ago????? That's one hell of a latte' LOL.
- Ashley| 2 repliesI got a call from 8558792988 on 7/30/15; saying they were a firm "Mulholland Group and Associates" that I should have been served court papers; I was being sued, for a Wachovia bank account that had been closed since 2006. They were threatening to garnish my wages. They knew the last four of my S.S. number and my address and previous address. They said they were suing for over $3000; but if I wasn’t served yet they would settle with me for $2000. If I could pay today they even went down to $1000. I was really freaked out and regretfully agreed to pay them... I did some research online the next day and saw all of the scam posts. I also looked at my credit report and saw that nothing from Wachovia was in collections. They emailed me papers to sign and fix back, terms of the agreement and a transaction approval for my account to have the money withdrawn. I did not sign or fax them back. I emailed them back stating that I did not agree to the terms and conditions and also that I did not authorize any transaction on my account. I have not been able to reach anyone by phone. I contacted my bank to try to freeze my account or stop payment and they wouldn't; they just canceled my card. When the money was withdrawn out of my account it was listed as "Wilshire Group and Associates." I am currently working with the bank filing a dispute against the transaction, however last I heard they did not sound like I was going to be getting any money back. Any suggestions? I mean I understand I fell for the scam; but it is still a scam, there has to be something I can do! I filed a complaint against both "companies" on the BBB website.

- CWG40 replies to AshleyOnly judges can issue garnishment orders and that only during a proceeding where all parties are given a chance to have their say. This is just an attempt to scare you into paying them something.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a DIME until the debt is validated.
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.
If they are bothering you,
Report them:
http://www.consumerfinance.gov/Complaint/#debt-collection
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them.

There's also questions regarding property address on the Mac****** Road. If you have any questions or concerns or if you would like to discuss the pending action being filed against you. Please contact the firm that is directly handling your file at 855-879-2988. Again that number is 855-879-2988 and you also need to reference claim number 54831. The firm will need to hear from you immediately. Otherwise they will be forced to make a decision without your consent. Thank you. Bye. They called my entire family and told them how much I was being sued for and everything and when I called them and started asking questions they actually hung up on me.

- Chrissy replies to AshleyThis information is identical to the BS they called me with, same amounts and everything. The only difference is I told the rude person on the other end of the line I hadn't had a job for a month and I'm a college student, he said "you haven't had a job for a month, well we cant help you, we are here to help figure out a way for you to pay of your balance without going through court" this was after he told me that they had already sent out a summons and that I should have already received it. I told him, oh well I just wait till I receive that summons then, and deal with that. Now I can see in reading all of this that one will probably not come. Has anyone gotten this so called court summons?
- HeatherI was contacted by them in Alabama what you all are describing. Claiming that I owe some money to this bank and if I don't pay that I will be sued. I asked them to send something in the mail and they claimed that they couldn't until they get a card number of some sort. The funny thing is the amount that they claim I owe changed one time they said $3,000 then the next time I talked to them they said $6,000. They actually called and left a message for my husband and I called back to see what it was about and they said they were actually looking for me. The man who left the message on the voicemail said his name was one thing but when I called back it sounded like I got the same person but he had a different name. They kept saying that some bank is suing me but I haven't gotten anything in the mail from any bank. I did have an account with this bank at one time but it was closed, I don't owe that bank any money so I don't understand why these people are claiming that I do and that this bank is suing me.

- AJThis afternoon I got a call from an unknown number. A voicemail (on my cell) "Hello this message is intended for -----. My name is Alexander Knight and I'm contacting you in reference to a complaint that has been forwarded to my office. If ----- has any questions or concerns regarding the pending action that's currently being filed against her, she will need to contact the firm that's directly handling her file. That's phone number 855.879.2988. She will need to contact the firm and reference her file number -----. That is reference file number -----. This message is time sensitive and the firm will need to hear from her in the next 24 hours, otherwise we will be forced to make a decision without her consent. Thank you."
Sooo... I call back and a woman answers the phone "Mulholland Group and associates. How may I direct your call?" I reply with "I'm not sure, I received a call from an Alexander Knight stating that there was a complaint filed against me and I was to give this file number." She asks for the file number and transfers me to my "case manager" Thomas Galbani. He takes my file number, confirms my name "Hold on a moment, I have to download the file from the attorney's office" and places me on hold. When he returned, he said that I was to be served a summons to appear in court because of an outstanding debt from 2006 to Wachovia Bank in the amount of $1,289.56. (Sincerely thinking I had no outstanding debt to Wachovia... Also thought to myself... In 08, Wells Fargo acquired Wachovia) Then proceeded to say that they would garnish my wages and/or take my assets to clear the debt. The attorney's fees would be waived if I paid the amount in full today, otherwise I would have to appear in court and the amount to be paid would rise to $4,289.56 because of court costs and attorney's fees. I stated that I knew nothing of this debt and haven't received any documentation or notice of any kind regarding this debt. He said paperwork was sent to an address that was 9 years old. I havent lived there for 8. He said "So that is a true and honest statement that you have not received any notice or documentation in regards to this debt before today?" and proceeded to tell me this call was being recorded. (Aren't they supposed to tell you that at the beginning of the call...?) He next said this call was a legal notification. I asked him to mail me the documents. (Not wanting to hand over my physical address and ultimately didn't) He said that would take 5-7 business days and because this is time sensitive, the amount will have to be resolved today. He asked if I had a fax or e-mail he could send the documents to, and took one of my e-mail addresses. I told him I would look over the documentation. He didn't seem to like the idea of letting me off the phone. He pushed for a payment option to resolve the matter today. I wasn't willing to hand over any payment information, and still didn't think I owed what he claimed. He said that I should call him back by the end of the day or they would have to proceed without me. We ended the call.
I got home a while later and a semiprofessional e-mail had been sent. Opening only with virus protection in place, I see on Adobe:

And then a few blank pages followed with a paragraph about The Privacy Act of 1974...
So after researching them, finding these 3 pages of people complaining, having been in an unwanted lawsuit and knowing legal documentation pretty well after dealing with four years of it... Yeah. This is absurd, a total scam.
Almost wanted to call back and call them out on it all but will report as previous comments shared the proper courses of action. Always be on guard...- Caller: The Mulholland Group and Associates

- Amy replies to CWG40| 2 repliesHi they called me from 1855-879-2989 and stated I owed from a bank account in 2006 I gave them my info and then read all these complaints... I have deactivated my card but I'm not sure what to do from here.. Any suggestions??
- Florence replies to Amy| 1 replyOMG I received a call tonight from the same number telling me the same exact thing. And I just paid off all my debt and panicked when they said there was a judgment against me so I gave him my credit card info. Then I did a search and saw all this. I immediately called the credit card company back and canceled my card and told them not to let the charge go through. I called Chris back and said I'm not paying anything without seeing paperwork which he offered to email me. Now I see that even that is not legit! I used to work for a law firm and should have known better. I would tell you to report them and if there truly is a debt have them serve you with papers.
- Kristy replies to FlorenceI received the exact same thing on last Friday. And Chris was his name. They said I owed debt from 2005. Said was like 1900. Told him there's no way. He automatically dropped it to 900. I asked for his address and he refused to give actual location just said California. He offered to send email as well. Said that they already mailed letter and I didn't respond so now they supposedly taking me to court. Supposedly a Cameron Charles is the one suppose to give me the papers.. I called everywhere to verify and wells Fargo don't have anything like that in their system. I called the BBB and they have had many complaints since they opened in 2015 and have a real bad rating. I did put in a complaint with the FTC.
- Ellie replies to CrystalYou mean "BBB" not "BBC" right? The Better Business Bureau.
- Ellie replies to hlawThat's the "FTC" (Federal Trade Commission) not the FCC (Federal Communications Commission).
