Got a call today that went to voicemail. The voicemail said "(First name), my name is Melissa and I am calling from NRC . You need to contact my office immediately as there is an urgent matter in my office.  It is imperative that you do return my call to prevent any further action,  I can be reached toll-free 1-855-855-1944 ext 431.  This person has left a similar message several times.  Too obnoxious to even consider returning the call.

I had to learn the hard way with a very similar situation. I can't stress enough how important it is to always have everything in writing when you pay off a debt. It could still slip into the hands of another collector just due to bad paperwork on the previous collectors end. I sent the 2nd collector all my paperwork showing I paid the debt and advised them to fix whatever info they put on my credit report IMMEDIATELY. Never heard from them again and my credit was fixed.

This is true, this is what happens when debts get written off. Collector companies buy the debt and try to collect on it.

Yea I think the prerequisites for being a debt collection agent are an @$$ hole, dumbass and bully.... I had the similar are you kidding me line... where they said don't pay your transit, or rent...
Ok so I stop paying transit.   I can't make it to work. I don't drive. And work is over quite awhile away. No one could drop me off or pick me up.
Not paying rent? I'd be thrown out so fast... i don't think these guys paid for ANYTHING themselves... and were probably instantly given a car from mommy and daddy... and never had to pay rent a day in their life... so people like this don't understand $ h! T

After 2 years any potential lawsuit is already thrown out the window. You've already won.... In a way.
If you've been on the phone with them at any point within those two years however, as soon as you confirm your name... Unfortunately you just reset the time line.... especially if you agreed to do anything for them

1855 855 1944  these guys were hired by trios to attempt to collect a disputed amout for books i didn't even need. collector: (supervisor jeremy price)  never verified my identity before proceeding with the phone call use foul language and even started pressing buttons in my ears. I figure this is his way of negotiating. anyway this place isn't getting a dime of my money, after calling my house yelling at me swearing at me demanding my money and not even fully explaining who they were or making sure I was the correct party. I contacted the school and I spoke to a laurel Bentley who advised that he should cease and desist from contacting me he responded that he would call me every hour. I personally have more to do with my time than to call customers on an hourly basis however still thought I should report this number none the less

Got a call early this morning and thought it was a family emergency. The lady that left the message sounded really annoyed and abrasive. Funny part  is they are looking for someone that doesn't belong to this number.

Same message as reported by everyone here. "call now to prevent legal action." Glad my former investigative self kicked in (back check facts before committing) before attempt to call them back.

So at this point, it feels like they are fishing (again). This number should be relatively easy to put on my block list so end of story here. Everyone who is being trolled, do the same and report and block. Much easier in this day and age.

Also students that are being trolled, you should have access to legal services for advice and help. These are usually free, for the rest of us life is too short to worry about trolls unless you want to sue the pants off them.

Cheers and have a good day everyone who lands here.

They've called several times and mainly no messages. I blocked them and receive different phone numbers that I block.  I don't call and would never give them my address. I owe NO money to HBC, Zellers or Sears.
At 4:01 pm, Sept. 21, 2018, a woman called under a cell number 1 226-765-1258 named Beth Faulmont. to say that it is imperitive that I call her at 1-855-855-1944 Ext.450 (which is blocked on my cell) or further action would be taken. It is in your best interest to return  this phone call. I called the cell and it is no longer in service.

Same phone # left on my voicemail (1-855-855-1944) this afternoon, with 266-765-1261 showing up on the call display.  It was a male calling, though.  He stated that it was imperative that "J" call back because what he was looking at "in the file" that came across his desk "made no sense".  Sounds like phishing to me because they asked for "J" instead of the full name.

I know you won't return to see this post but others searching for this number will so this information is for them: Speaking to a debt collector, even just to confirm your name, DOES NOT "reset the time line." Making a payment or signing a new contract, however, does. Before you do that, demand they mail you proof of the debt. Phone calls, faxes, texts, and emails are not legal methods of debt validation. Only US mail.

This company has been calling and harassing my family for some woman who apparently owes money. I have tried everything to get rid of these people. I have had to seek legal action against them for harassing my family. Who calls a person at work an upward of 8 times a day. Also, automated voicemail messages are scams. I know that is company is trying to take advantage of people who has cleared here name of debt.

This number keeps calling my phone and not leaving a voicemail when I have not been able to answer. I looked at posts from others stating this has to do with HBC. I have never had an HBC card and I monitor my credit every month and I have no outstanding. It is probably for the person who had this phone number before me. I keep advising them when I answer the call they have the wrong number when they call and they keep hassling me. I block the number and then they call with a different number.
