I've had this number come up quite a few times with no message.  Last one was a message by either a very convincing recording or an actual person.  The content was one of those "We are looking for the person handling the affairs of..."  They left a call back number but I accidentally erased the message before getting that number.
I've heard this is a SCAM to collect debt for someone who's dead.

I just received a call from 855-859-0047, I didn't give them the opportunity to say anything except hello.  I didn't bother to do anything but hang up.

Along with myself, several of my relatives have received calls from this "company" called Ascension Point claiming to be looking for someone handling the affairs of a dead relative.  In my case, this was my grandfather who has been dead for 10 years.  This is a SCAM.  If you know who to contact to report this, please do this.  This is despicable.

We had a death on our family 10 days ago.  My dad had 150.00 due on his AT&T Visa.  The payment was set for Auto pay with the bank (without us knowing about it).  When he died, the account froze and the auto payment failed.  Visa contacted this collector to get the money out of us.. before Dad's even in the ground!  No letter or warning from Visa.  They called anyone and everyone to include my wife's parents who have never met Dad and varous other relatives.  What a POS company.  Worse, shame on your AT&T for your inconsiderate practices.  Decided to ignore this company since we can deal with AT&T Visa directly.

IAscension point is a SCAM they are using other "800" numbers other than 855-859-0047 addressing themselves as Ascenion Point.  My signifcant other and myself have been hounded by this company since October of l2010 when his father passed away (penniless).

Beware this is a collection agency trying to SCAM money out of relatives, they have even contacted our exspouses who are livid, thinking we gave them their telephone numbers. "BUNK". WE have paid out of our own pockets hundreds 100's of dollars that medicaid and medicare would not pick up.  WE ARE DONE!!!  Not only did we get bumbarded by the medical profession (those that were seeking payment over and above what medicaid and medicare were  willing to pay) BUT give us a break "ASCENSION POINT" we owe you NOTHING!.  Infact, by law we do not, repeat do not have to pay anyone else's outstanding medicial bills, which include our parents and relatives.   Ascension Point is using different "800" numbers the most recent one for me after 5 calls, is 888-420-2510, ext.4251 (by the way his name is "Wes").  I hope he has a very, very nice day. PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT FALL INTO THIS SCAM.   Have a Blessed Day!

My teenage daughter received a yellow postcard with her full name in the mail that said Dear **** ****, we are trying to reach you about your REWARD!  You have been selected  to receive $100.00 gift card to Walmart, Target and more.  Hurry call today at 1-855-576-0047 so we can mail you your gift card!!!  Same telephone number that all the above are complaining about.  Just a different scam.

The teenager that she is, called the number.  They asked for her claim number which was on the card and congratulations!  We will be mailing you your gift card in 5 business days!  Then.....You ready?  She asked for her credit card number for the $4.95 shipping and handling for the credit card to be mailed.  LOL  I told her to tell the woman to just subtract it from the gift card, simple right?  No no no we can't do that!   I told her before she dialed that number that if the person sounds of Indian descent it's a scam.  LOL

My daughter hangs up and says......Mom, I hate it when you're right!  Ughhh  LOL

P.S.  The postcard had no business name on it.

Caller was a woman, with an exceptionally clear, accent-less voice (unusual these days!) She introduced herself and said "We are looking for the person handling the affairs of [my late husband]".  She asked me to call her back at 888-806-9073 x 2111. If she had reached the wrong number, please call them and let them know so they could "remove this number from their records" (yeah, right!). Glad I checked both the calling and the callback numbers with 800notes before returning the call!

Update: I have an outstanding debt in dispute, resulting from my husband's death last year. The creditor just told me they have turned it over to Ascension Point, so this was (so far, anyway) a legitimate call from a legitimate debt collector. When I called Ascension Point, they took the particulars, and said they would have to work with the original creditor to get it resolved. They were very courteous and businesslike. We'll see how it turns out.
FYI, their callback number is 888-806-9073.

Ascension Point is anything but a "legitimate debt collector".  They don't have to work with anyone.  They will simply come back and bully you into paying something you either don't owe or are not responsible for.
If the debt is in dispute, attempting to collect it is illegal.  Period.  That is the law.

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
