Any body else get a call from this number claiming you owe money from a payday loan, that went into your bank but was never paid. I think this is a scam can someone confirm this form me please. They also called from this number as well 855-590-9949, then a call from 313 486-1527 and then 313-486-1617. As soon as I call, I cant make out the name being said and someone answers as soon as you called. Real debt collects have extensions. Would appreciate any information!

    Did you get--
    1. Written documentation of this ""debt"" that was mailed to you?  That would give the caller's name & address, the original debt information, dates, amounts due, etc.  Demand that if they call again (and expect excuses and possibly illegal, meaningless threats - also illegal).
Nothing in writing, mailed to you = NOTHING!
    2. They mumbled the "company name".  Would a legitimate company do that?
    3. The 855 area code does have quite  few scammers in it.

I had a message left by them claiming a past banking transaction can affect my current banking situation. There was at least four different voices used in the pre-recorded message they left me. It was the equivalent of a ransom note sent using clipped words from magazines. So in turn, I left them a message to reach me at 1-800-FUC-KOFF. I wonder if they understood the message?

Called my mothers number with a robo msg leaving a past bank transaction number and phone number. I called the number 855-901-1307 Galloway & Kaufman(?) voicemail for a Mr. Goldstein to leave a msg which I did not do. Called back sesame number and got a Anthony Phillips who was very evasive as to who he was working for and could not answer anything specific about who the pay loan was from  other than Access Creditors(?) and that this was an online loan given supposedly 7 years ago. Really people???? Do what you do then. Is finding work this difficult you would spend your day calling around the country with such an attempt as this to receive an income?

Yes it's is a scam they threaten say they are attorneys, law enforcement,  process servers say they are serving papers at your home or work, are very belligerent.Don't fall for any of it.Above all never, ever let them scare you in to giving them money or personal banking info,or any other kind.We have a great person on the news that checks all these scams out.He states to contact the Fcc,Atty General,Better Business Bureau.Tell them that you reported them and not to call your number again as your calls are being monitored.Stand your ground.Usually they spoof the numbers and when you call b ack it says it's disconnected.Just don't answer calls you don't recognize. There are serious fines on these people that you keep track of and  you will be sent some of what is collected if they get caught.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.

    Some Tips:
    *Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

How can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:

The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.

The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.

The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.

The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.

Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
    The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.

Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
    Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
    Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.

Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.

Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).

This is a scam. He claimed I owed a payday loan and he said they would settle for $200.00. When I asked for specific information he said I could get it when he filed it with the clerk's office and hung up on me. My attorney said they scare people into paying people into paying them, so they won't file a claim at the clerk's office, but they can't file a claim of any kind.

    Unintimidated
Received with a caller ID of a town 75 miles away and a phone number that is most likely spoofed.  This is the recorded message left on my machine:

"This message serves as an initial notice for ________.  We are calling today in regards to a serious business matter pertaining to a past banking transaction that can affect your current banking situation.  It would be in your best interest to contact us immediately, directly at (855) 901-1307   Please refer to reference number _______.  Thank you!"

She says "thank you" in such a cheerful voice--I guess they think that will trick people into calling back.

No, it is definitely not in anyone's best interest to call them back.  I worked for a law firm that handled legitimate collection cases.  Even IF these callers filed a small claims complaint (which they are not going to do because they are not going to pay court filing fees and because they don't have a legally collectible debt), you would then get a copy of the complaint in the mail, which would have the lawyer's name and contact information, and you still would have a chance to call the lawyer or creditor and try to work out a settlement without going to court and having a judgment filed against you.

HOWEVER, I know positively 100% for sure that there are no pending collections or "serious business matters" against me.  My credit report and background check are clear.  And I NEVER, not ever, took out a payday loan, as some of you here have reported these scammers claiming.

Up until today, I was getting a different recorded message that I received repeatedly from different phone numbers from all over the country.  That message said there was an important matter and they must speak with me immediately.  I highly suspect these are the same people who have now switched to a different recorded message.  These calls always seem to follow the same pattern.  After a while, they'll start leaving messages that say there are charges pending against me; then they will leave messages saying that since they haven't heard from me they are going to turn the matter over to another department; then I'll receive calls saying they will serve papers at my home or work.  They aren't doing anything, except robocalling with different empty threats.

They are trying to get your personal info or your money that they could never get legally through the court.  Just ignore them.  Don't call back.

Got a call today asking for a relative who lives on the opposite side of the country and has never taken a payday loan in their life. I assume they got my number when I wired my relative money for a home down payment, because we don't have the same last name and haven't lived in the same state for twenty years. I mean really, scammers, try to get your facts straight before you cold call people with threats of legal action, will you? Wrong house, wrong number, wrong state, wrong region, wrong person. But hey, at least you're in the right country! Good job.
