- BigA replies to MikeHuntletonIts post from yesterday is still up. I replied to it but I guess it wasn't happy with the reply since I pretty much scuttled is claim of doing "extensive research". This one is simply a troll now. Best to let the mods take care of it from here on out.
- J replies to AmyMy father got a check too and called the number. They told him to cash the check so he did. Now he told me about it. I don’t think it’s legitimate. I’m going to look further in to it. Does anyone know for sure if it’s legitimate?

- CraigGot a check in the mail for approx $700. Very leary if some type of scam. Letter referenced "Refund for Home Warranty Service" as subject. Very leary as we did not recall getting a home warranty through Wells Fargo when we had mortgage through them about 10 years ago. Googled and found other instances of WF issues with overcharges etc but not this particular type (until I ultimately found these recent posts). Did call the number on letter and the operator sounded legit, she asked for a reference number, and said it was related to an AHS warranty through WF (with approximate timeframe of mortgage). She also gave me a phone number to call AHS (which matched to AHS site) if further questions. I did find one statement from the time period in my tax records which detailed a charge of $42.67 for "optional charges" which is later detailed at "AHS warranty" further down in statement. I also saw an entry in our checkbook from that timeframe that matched the statement amount which included the AHS warranty. Doing the math it appears they are reimbursing me for about 14 months of warranty. Finally convinced it is likely legit and taking it to my local bank (not Wells Fargo as we have none in our state or surrounding states) and teller put the check under a light to see if it looks legit and appears legit. Deposited in an account. Downside is I will be charged $12 if check doesn't clear. Should know for sure in a week probably worst case. Note: I even considered starting a seperate bank account with only this check deposited into it which I would transfer to another account at a later date (once cleared) and close the new account. MY SUGGESTION IS DO NOT THROW CHECK AWAY AS I FEEL IT IS LEGIT AT THIS TIME and consider going to a local Wells Fargo if you have a bank branch near you.

- Mark replies to AmyThis check very well could be legit.
I received one as well with the exact same phone number on it. I don't have Wells Fargo account nor do I ever remember having had a home warranty through Wells Fargo. I DID, however, have a home warranty for a short time through a company called American Home Shield, way back in 2012.
I called a Wells Fargo Customer Service number I found online, and the rep gave me another number to call about Home Warranty refunds; that number was 844-357-6593, M-F, 8-5 CST. I don't expect you to trust this number any more than you or I trusted the number on the initial letter; I just provide it for you (and others) to reference it against a number you get from an actual WF rep.
Anyway, I called that number and after the rep confirmed my mailing address and name, found that the check was legit. The rep told me that AHS was backed by Wells Fargo, and so they were issuing refunds of any amount paid to AHS, due to an Ernst and Young audit which revealed "discrepancies". She said it didn't matter how long ago the service had been paid for; WF was issuing a full refund.
So, do you own research; spend a little time on the phone, and hopefully you can cash a check that you didn't ever expect to receive!
Good luck!
