Thanks for previous comments. Had the caller ID come across as Shriner's, I would have given more time to the caller. However, I had no idea who called. When I answered, I heard a female laughing and in conversation with someone. Eventually, she said, "Hi, I am Jennifer. How are you today?" I told Jennifer it was her lucky day because I give lessons on effective telephone soliciting and she definitely is in need of help. I offered my low price of $150/half hour, but Jennifer interrupted me, started her spiel. I asked her to pause, but she did not, she kept on, poorly, reading her script.
Hey, angeleyes, change your name and get real.

I just received a call from 865-246-1280...Bristol Motor Speedway.  It rang 3 times, I answered, no one home on other end.

FYI  I'm also on the Do Not Call List....but charities are exempt!!  Not real sure how Bristol Speedway could be a charity though.

HM!! I have read downthru the reports on this number and the call I rec'd the caller ID,.. ID'd it as Bristol Motor. So... what they heck is going on? No message was left and I too am wondering who they are? I am pretty tired of getting all of these unwanted calls. I DON'T pay to have a phone to put up with all of these telemarkers and scammers calling and dealing with their bull. I don't answer any call unless it is someone I know! We as citizens need to start flooding the government to put a STOP to all of this crap!

    Caller ID:  Bristol Motor S
    Phone #: 865-246-1280
    Call Rec'd Feb 16, 2010 at 2:46 p.m.

Left no message on answering machine. I don't know them; they don't even leave their message on voice mail or answering machine. The phone number indicates it's from Tennessee, but no other information is available. I'm on the National Do Not Call List (a lot of good that does).

I got a call a few moments ago and since I was busy I let the machine get it.

My caller ID listed it as "Bristol Motor S..." Don't know what the "s" stands for.

And everyone else here sees "shriners."  Strange.

Same as above.  Caller ID said "Bristol Motors S"  (that's all the letters my ID will display).  A computer geek friend of mine told me that when using a cell phone, callers can download software that erroneously ID's them.  In other words, they can fake the caller ID.  The reports from 2007 say this number is linked to Shriners.  It's possible that you have some generic "calling center" that gets contracts with various people or companies to make calls on their behalf.  Doesn't matter really, because sooner or later these people will realize that we will NOT answer their calls, give to their "charities" or take their surveys.  After receiving upwards of 11 of these kinds of calls per day, I invested the 60 dollars in a phone trap.  I love it.  The phone never rings unless it's a number I've put in.  Every other call goes to voice mail or, if I've so programmed, just keeps ringing to the caller.  It's a shame that we have to spend money for such devices.  We should have the right to be left alone in our own home.

The Shriners organization is called the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, or A.A.O.N.M.S. It was established in New York City in 1870, and is an appendant body to Freemasonry. From its inception, the focus was on camaraderie and they use the phrase, "Pleasure without intemperance, hospitality without rudeness and jollity without coarseness." The Shriners are a fraternal organization and its members are bound by oaths of loyalty. The membership is limited to men that are third degree, or master Masons. Apparently there is no direct connection to Islam even though they have a Middle Eastern theme in their dress and logos.

Freemasonry is shrouded in mystery and many consider it to be a quasi-religious body. Commonly, conservative, fundamental churches do not allow oath-bound members of such organizations to be members of their churches. Externally it exists as a social/fraternal organization and seems to exist primarily for social purposes. The belief system of the Shriners arises from their association with Freemasonry, but they do not seem to aggressively recruit members or actively propagate the teachings of the parent body.

The Shriners have several socially beneficial projects. The most significant one is the Shriners Hospitals, which they control through the Imperial Council, their governing board. While the Shriners do some good and admirable things, due to their connection with Freemasonry, Christians should not be members of, or associated with, the Shriners.

In response to the Bristol Motor Speedway calls - they were a calling about NASCAR tickets, another rip-off deal they tried. Shrine Services is actually Etsell Inc. They were formed in the 70's in Florida as a way to help the retired elderly people dispose of some of their income. THESE PEOPLE ARE THE BIGGEST SCAM OUT THERE & HAVEN'T BEEN CAUGHT IN 30 YEARS!!!! They claim that 75% of the money they collect goes to the kids but thats hard to do when they pay their managers over $1000.00 a week. when it's all said and done about 15% goes to the kids, and that ONLY PAYS THEIR WAY INTO THE CIRCUS.My best advice to anyone dealing with them is to get an Organization List. Every project has one and you can check it out on your own. OVER 1/2 THE ORGANIZATIONS THEY CLAIM GET FREE PASSES DON'T EXIST OR HAVEN'T EVER GOTTEN PASSES. MOST OF THE SCHOOLS IN FLORIDA HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT THIS ORGANIZATION - CALL UP A PRINCIPAL AND SEE WHAT ANSWER YOU GET, OR TRY ONE OF THE RETIRMENT CENTERS THEY LIST! (MY FAVORITE IS THE COMMUNITY CENTER IN ORLANDO, HOW DO YOU TAKE PEOPLE FROM A PLACE WERE NOBODY LIVES?)
