They sent me an email asking me to submit my DL number for a background check in order to be hired by the USPS.. TO submit my DL # I also had to have my ss# and DOB for their firm.  They call themselves GIS.  The number was on the form they sent but there is no way to verify they are legit.

I called the number and voicemail so generic. Too bad people with This kind of computer talent rather use it for Evil!

Didn't get a call, but an email.  I'm a bit leery.  The 'bold, red' highlighting looks strange.  Looked up GIS; looks legit, but who knows.

GOT THE ANSWER! So...This IS Legitimate! If you go back to the USPS web site, under Job Application Process Help/FAQs, click the link, go to, Assessment and Examination. It downloads a pdf and the very last paragraph on page 6 mentions General Information Services, Inc. (GIS). This is the phone number and the company USPS has contracted with to do background checks.

Don't be so sure if you just went to the web site!  I appears from posts that the local POs don't know about this.  If it was legit, they should have had the same experience when they were hired.  I'm going to call the postal inspector's office tomorrow and get a real answer.  I WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL, but it's up to you.

The PDF bottom of page 6 still doesn't verify the email address and phone number though! Crud. You'd think USPS would publish it so we can double check this isn' a scam.

Received email from GIS  for ss#, dob, and DL# to process USPS application. I was not sure if real. I read all comments. Followed a post from pat. USPS website under job application FAQ, assessment and exam PDF comes up. Page 6 last paragraph mentions GIS. Think it is legit. They might want to work on delivery if this many feel false

Never trust what you read about emails, since they have been targets of scams since the internet came to life. Always call the legitimate company and verify with them if its real or not.
Keep in mind, just because a number is legit, doesn't mean the caller is!

Scammers spoof legitimate numbers to trick people into a false sense of security to answer their calls and attempt to get money or personal information from you.
This is why no one will encourage others to report of legitimate numbers, as they only confuse people into believing it is a legit call when a scammer has called them and they come here to find out about the call.

If it is a legitimate call, then anyone receiving a call would know WHY they got a call from this number, right?
So what would be a reason to come and post about it to a site designed to share information about UNKNOWN callers, such as Telemarketers, Scammers and Debt Collectors?

If your call was legit,  telling about it won't  be any comfort to those who may get a spoofed call from some scammer!
